Opened in 2017, BASIS International School Guangzhou was the second BASIS International School established in China. It is also the first to offer weekday boarding for students. As our school grows, we are looking to hire an Elementary Math & Science Teacher to join our talented team of educators beginning in July 2019. Our Elementary teachers benefit from the unique BASIS Primary Model where the class is taught by two teachers—one Subject Expert Teacher (SET) and one Learning Expert Teacher (LET).

About the Position
As an Elementary Math & Science Subject Expert Teacher, you are able to focus your teaching on just the specific subject, rather than preparing lessons for several subjects every day. You will work collaboratively with the Learning Expert Teacher to cultivate a joyful learning culture where hard work is celebrated and intellectual pursuits result in extraordinary student outcomes. At the elementary level, LETs help you focus on instruction while they ensure individual student understanding according to student needs. As a Math & Science Subject Expert Teacher, it is primarily your responsibility to develop engaging, content-rich subject specific lesson plans and to teach creative thinking and problem solving skills.
Elementary Math/Science teachers stimulate and encourage students’ natural curiosity while teaching foundational math and scientific concepts. Teachers have the freedom to present and teach the concepts in their own way. Basic addition and subtraction turn into practical applications such as making change, the scientific method shows students how everyone uses science in daily life. A teacher’s passion can spark a lifetime of interest and learning, and we encourage our Subject Expert Teachers to allow their enthusiasm for their subject to inspire their students.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education or a Math or Science related field
- Minimum two years’ experience as a lead teacher
- Must be open to new ideas in teaching
- Subject matter postgraduate work (Master’s or above) is preferred
- Ability to successfully pass a background check

The second BASIS International School in China, BASIS International School Guangzhou, opened in August 2017. Almost 400 students in grades Kindergarten - Grade 9 attended the first year, and the school has grown to its capacity of approximately 1,200 students in grades Pre-K - 12. It is also the first BASIS International School to offer a weekday boarding program. The school has enjoyed many academic and artistic successes, including a first place finish by the Economics team in the 2019 global round of the National Economics Challenge, as well as upper school drama students receiving the first ever National Directors Award for producing dramatic work that has never been seen before at a high school level in China.
