About the Role

The Email Security Analyst is a key player in the Cyber Security Operations team. Part technical and administrator, part strategist, and part incident response, this role is key to defending us against one of our common attack vectors. You will enjoy and thrive working on a variety of tasks on any given day and are a team player who enjoys working in an advanced security environment using some of the latest tech and tools with management support. Due to the nature of cyber security work, after-hours monitoring or incident response may be required.

Reporting to the SecOps Lead, you will work alongside the ICT and SecOps team and stakeholders to resolve security problems, develop solutions to reduce incidents, and recover from unplanned critical events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive email security strategies, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks and protect against email-based threats.
  • Monitor, analyse, and investigate email security incidents and alerts, promptly responding to and resolving any identified issues.
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits of the email security infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities, recommend improvements, and implement necessary security controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement security measures for email filtering, anti-phishing, anti-malware, and encryption solutions.
  • Stay up to date with the latest email security threats, industry trends, and best practices, and proactively implement relevant security measures.
  • Perform regular security awareness training for employees to educate them about email security risks, safe email practices, and incident response procedures.
  • Work closely with the incident response team to ensure proper incident handling, containment, eradication, and recovery measures for email-related security incidents.
  • Conduct periodic penetration testing and vulnerability assessments on the email infrastructure to identify and address potential weaknesses.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for email security technologies, including secure email gateways, email encryption, data loss prevention (DLP) solutions, and authentication mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to investigate and remediate any email-related security breaches or incidents.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or equivalent.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), or Certified Email Security Specialist (CESS) are highly desirable.
  • Understanding of email protocols, SMTP, email filtering mechanisms, and email infrastructure components,
  • Established understanding of DMARC, DKIM, and SPF for implementation and maintenance,
  • Experience in incident response, security operations, or a similar role, with a focus on email security,
  • Strong analytical skills to assess security risks, detect anomalies, and investigate security incidents,
  • Familiarity of SIEM technologies, Sentinel preferred.
  • Familiarity with email security tools, Proofpoint preferred however Defender for O365, and Abnormal Security will also be highly regarded. 
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide security awareness training.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to rapidly changing security threats and technologies.
  • 3+ years prior experience in a similar role in a multi-location organisation with 5000+ end users is desirable.
  • 2+ years’ experience with office365, Azure, AWS is desirable.
  • 1+ years’ experience with identity management and application platforms is desirable.
