Sancton Wood School is seeking an Emotional Learning Support Assistant to join our pastoral and SEND teams on a fixed-term basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who need a little extra support, helping them feel safe, confident, and ready to thrive at school.
This role is perfect for someone who truly cares about child wellbeing, mental health, and inclusive education, and who wants to make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of young people.
This is a fixed-term contract for the Summer Term.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Provide 1:1 and small-group emotional support, tailored to each student’s needs.
Help students develop resilience, emotional regulation, and positive social skills.
Work closely with class teachers, the SENDCo, and pastoral team to support students’ welfare and learning.
Assist in designing and delivering wellbeing-focused interventions.
Observe and monitor student progress, keeping accurate records and reporting any concerns.
Build positive, trusting relationships with students, creating a safe and supportive environment.
Provide in-class support when needed to help students engage and succeed.
Contribute to safeguarding practices and uphold the school’s policies and values at all times.
Who We’re Looking For:
Essential:
Warm, empathetic, and patient with children.
Experience working with young people in educational, pastoral, or support settings.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Understanding of emotional wellbeing, behaviour support, or SEND needs.
Team player, proactive, and committed to inclusion and student welfare.
Desirable:
Training in emotional literacy support (e.g., ELSA) or other wellbeing-based approaches.
Experience in mental health support, counselling, or therapeutic interventions.
Experience working in an independent school environment
