John Chilton School is a special school judged as Good with Outstanding aspects (OFSTED November 2018) for pupils aged 4 to 19 years, with cognitive difficulties with or without a physical or medical need. Applications are invited from excellent teachers who have an interest in working with pupils with special needs; ECT's are welcome to apply.

John Chilton School is based across two sites The successful applicant must be able to commit to working at both sites as required.

Main Purpose of the Job:

  • Take specific responsibility for the day-to-day management and organisation of teaching and learning through the Secondary Engagement Pathway ensuring a high standard of provision for pupils
  • Lead, manage and develop the non-subject specific curriculum route and to lead and manage pupil development across the curriculum ensuring continuity in relation to whole school developments
  • To be responsible for the overall pastoral care of pupils, supporting incidents of behaviour and their well being
  • Be an excellent classroom practioner
  • Have an impact on educational progress beyond your assigned pupils
  • Actively participate in whole school self-evaluation and school improvement planning
  • Line manage and appraise identified staff
  • Assist in the smooth running of the school at all times, including being responsible with the other TLR holders for the school in the absence of the Headteacher or Deputy Headteachers
  • To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school

Required:

  • Experience of working with pupils with profound and severe learning difficulties;
  • Experience of teaching across a variety of age ranges relevant to the post.
  • Recent and successful experience of co-ordinating or leading a curriculum area.

John Chilton School is a mixed Community Special School funded by Ealing Local Authority for pupils aged 4-19 years who may have moderate to severe learning difficulties as a primary need or as a dual diagnosis to their medical or physical needs.

Our secondary department is uniquely located within the all-age Alec Reed Academy (ARA) building. This provides opportunities for inclusion and integration where appropriate for individuals. Pupils from both schools can share opportunities and advantages. 

Our primary department is co-located at Wood End Primary School (WEP) in Greenford. As JCS expands the WEP site is being redeveloped for our pupils, with a view to total occupancy in 2024. JCS and WEP look for opportunities for social inclusion through events and curriculum integration opportunities are possible.
