Job overview

We are seeking to appoint committed and inspiring individuals to join us at the start of our 2022/23 academic year (24 August 2022).

This role requires high levels of personal and professional commitment and the ability to work successfully as part of a team is essential. The successful candidates will be highly adaptable and flexible and will need a strong work ethic.  Teaching experience is not essential; if you have an engineering background, a desire to share your experience and knowledge with young people and a passion to change lives by developing the engineers and business leaders of the future, we would love to hear from you.  Training will be provided and you will be joining a supportive, enthusiastic and collaborative Engineering Team.  If you would like to discuss this informally before submitting an application, please contact the HR Team by email to recruitment@jcbacademy.com.

The JCB Academy is innovative, unique and unlike any other school, with learners from Y9 to Sixth Form and providing Intermediate (level 2) and Advanced (level 3) apprenticeship programmes. From 2022/23, we will be delivering an Engineering T-level which will provide learners with an additional qualification choice after their GCSEs.  With cutting-edge facilities, world-leading partners and genuine industrial challenges that bring theory to life, our learners are equipped with aptitudes and skills that prestigious apprenticeship providers, universities and global companies look for in future business leaders and engineers.

We offer learners a unique curriculum developed by the academy and its core partners. Working with the likes of Bosch Rexroth, Harper Adams University, JCB, Rolls-Royce and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, we ensure that the curriculum is embedded in real industrial practice and includes genuine industrial challenges. Our aim is to provide a world class experience to learners and staff.

This role offers first class career development opportunities, excellent CPD, wonderful learners, an innovative education vision, great links to industry and higher education and an opportunity to work in a unique environment with fantastic facilities.  We have a strong track record of leadership development and succession planning for an ambitious candidate who is keen to progress into leadership in the future.

The JCB Academy was established in September 2010, the first of a brand new kind of school in the UK, with a focus on delivering high-quality engineering and business education.

Since opening we have been consistently successful - our Ofsted inspection in September 2018 recognised us as a “Good” school with “outstanding” features, including progress in mathematics, engineering and vocational courses and the dedication to keeping learners safe and secure.

Learner numbers are growing and we have been oversubscribed every year. Currently we cater for approximately 700 full time learners aged 13-19 as well as approximately 300 learners aged 16+ following apprenticeships.

The academy is located in Rocester, Staffordshire in an adapted and renovated mill,  built by the famous industrial entrepreneur and engineer, Richard Arkwright, in the late 18th century.

Values and vision

The JCB Academy aims to change lives by developing the engineer and business leaders of the future.  We do this by:

  • Working closely with our world-leading industrial partners.
  • Having dedicated staff who inspire our learners.
  • Ensuring every learner has a meaningful destination.

We work tirelessly to ensure that those entrusted into our care have every chance to achieve success. It is important that learners achieve well academically to ensure that they can compete in the marketplace for higher education places and employment. It is also important that we work to develop those core skills essential for success, not just in the world of work but also in life. The JCB Academy looks to ensure that all learning enables young people to develop:

  • Can do/positive attitudes.
  • The desire to achieve through actions.
  • Creative and enterprising behaviours.
  • A willingness to learn in the pursuit of technical and academic excellence.
  • Team work and leadership capability.

We have high expectations of each and every learner who will join us. Great store is placed upon self-discipline, good behaviour, uniform, teamwork and co-operation. These traditional values are at the heart of all we undertake at The JCB Academy.

The JCB Academy is a demanding and stimulating place to work. One where you will be supported to achieve your very best in a fantastic working environment.

Ofsted

“Students make outstanding progress in mathematics, engineering and most vocational courses. Many students enter apprenticeships, higher education courses and careers which reflect the characteristics of the University Technical College and its high reputation in the engineering and business industries and professions. Leadership, including governance, is good and improving. As a result, all groups of students are making sustained progress and most are achieving well.”
