Job overview
Students at The Leigh UTC “are proud to attend a school that is realising its vision of ‘developing STEM professionals for the future global market’” Ofsted, 2022.
The Leigh UTC opened in 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities. We are the first UTC to join a multi-academy trust, to become an IB World School, to be built in Kent and among the first Academies in the UK to offer T-levels and Level 3 and 4 apprenticeships. We were the first UTC to open from Year 7 and have been oversubscribed in all year groups ever since, now serving over 800 young people from Kent, Medway and South-East London. We are a pioneering Academy and are looking for like-minded, ambitious people who can make great things happen for the young people in our community.
We have an exciting opportunity for a hardworking individual to undertake a Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship. Whether you are a school leaver or more experienced Engineering Technician, this programme will offer you the chance to learn new skills and get ahead in your career.
Our successful learner will be involved in highly skilled, complex and precision work, operating machining components from specialist materials and using conventional and/or CNC machine tools such as centre lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, horizontal and cylindrical grinding machines, electro discharge machines, single and multi-axis CNC machine tools centres. You will be able set up, operate and adjust/edit equipment settings as applicable to the machine tool being used. When using CNC equipment, you will be able to produce, prove and/or edit programmes. During and on completion of the machining operations units, you will be expected to measure and check the components being produced and make adjustments to the equipment or programme to ensure components meet the required specification.
Applicants should be professional, personable and committed to providing an excellent service on behalf of the organisation, and above all else our appointed learners will have a positive work ethic and can-do attitude. If you're as excited by this opportunity as we are, we'd love to hear from you!
This is a fixed term opportunity for the duration of the apprenticeship, working 37 hours per week. This role offers an actual salary of £14,529 per annum (£16,470 full time equivalent).
Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st September 2024, our Trust comprises 33 geographically organised academies (17 secondaries, 14 primaries and 2 special) educating more than 24,000 students and employing 4,000 talented staff. Currently, 14 of our academies are considered to be “Outstanding” which is nearly 50% of those which have been inspected whilst part of the Trust. The Trust is establishing three ‘clusters’ of academies: LAT Central; LAT West; LAT North. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training organisations, a large teaching school hub and is an accredited apprenticeship provider. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.
As part of Leigh Academies Trust, you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.
