Job overview

Trinity school, Carlisle are looking to appoint a highly motivated and committed English teacher to teach at all key stages. The position can be either full time or part time. Applications are welcome from NQTs and more experienced teachers. The post is full time and permanent required for September 2023, or sooner if possible.

Below is a breakdown of how English is delivered at Trinity School:

Key Stage 3 – We seek to deliver an interleaved, text-rich curriculum at Key Stage 3; providing opportunities to regularly revisit and embed key threshold skills. Each year group completes three learning cycles across the academic year, each one based on a text type. During each learning cycle the study of the focus literature text is interleaved with the teaching of creative writing and analysis of non-fiction. Throughout each cycle students complete regular mini-assessments, echoing the style of both paper one and two of the AQA English Language qualification. Years 7 and 8 are taught in mixed ability tutor groups; Year 9 remain in mixed ability groups but these are determined by departmental data, which is tracked across all year groups. All Key Stage 3 classes have four hours of English per week.

Key Stage 4 - Year 10 and Year 11 are taught in sets according to ability. Students are prepared for both English Language and English Literature GCSE of the AQA specification. Text choices for each class are determined by individual teachers and across the department, we cover a variety of different options. Throughout year 11, intervention, masterclasses and after-school sessions are timetabled in order to supplement the teaching of KS4.

Key Stage 5 - At Trinity, we currently have around 50 students studying English courses in the Sixth Form. We offer English Language, English Literature (‘A’ syllabus) and Media Studies at A level, following the EDUQAS syllabuses for all.

We hope that these details have helped you decide that you would like to apply for this post. Please fill in the application form and write a letter of no more than two sides about your work so far, and what we would gain if you joined our school.

Send the completed application form and a letter explaining why we should be thinking about appointing you to Mrs Judith Clarke, PA to the Headteacher, Trinity School, Strand Road, Carlisle, CA1 1JB or email jcl@trinity.cumbria.sch.uk by 9.00am, Thursday 16 February 2023.
