Job overview

Bridlington School English department is seeking an enthusiastic, passionate, and well-organised team-player to join our successful team. Our department tagline is ‘English is exploring meaning and communicating with confidence’, and this is at the core of our curriculum.

The Role

You will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach A-Level English Literature. You will be expected to contribute to the collaborative approach that we take as a team, both in terms of our curriculum planning and of our coaching culture.

The Team

The English Team boasts a wealth of diverse experience. Our team members include the Assistant Headteachers for Teaching and Learning and for Inclusion; a Reading and Literacy Tutor; a Teaching Assistant who conducts testing and screening, as well as a KS2 trained teacher who leads on our transition from Year 6. We can guarantee you will be well supported in your career as an English Teacher at Bridlington School!

A passion for Teaching and Learning is at the heart of everything that we do. Therefore, we spend time as a team collaborating to ensure that our curriculum is exciting and innovative. We are extremely proud of our spiralled curriculum and the opportunities that we offer our students in the classroom and through our extra-curricular offer.

The English Department has its own ‘block’, being based in a stand-alone building with a work room, offices and a library. The library is a hub of reading and independent learning during lunchtimes, and it is run by our student librarians.

What we can offer You

It is an exciting time to join Bridlington School as we continue to strengthen relationships with other local Education providers including nearby Secondary Schools and Primary Feeders. This provides opportunity to be involved in transition and outreach work, but also connections with peers across the local area.

The school has a genuine and sustained focus on reducing workload, particularly in relation to marking and feedback.

You will join a friendly, supportive department who can assist your own career aims including progression. Many of our senior staff joined Bridlington School as NQTs/ECTs.

  • have a passion for all things reading and English;
  • be outgoing, flexible and adaptable to cope with demands of the role;
  • have a commitment to professional development;
