The School is looking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational English Teacher (0.5 FTE) to join our successful English department. The successful candidate will be required to teach across all key stages including A level. The position is open to experienced teachers and ECTs.

The successful candidate should have a genuine passion for English and the ability to convey this to pupils is essential. 

Teaching Duties

Teaching and Learning

• To teach English across KS3/KS4/KS5, according to departmental planning schemes of work and examination syllabi.

• To promote, monitor and support student learning and progress within the English Department being accountable for the attainment, progress an outcomes of the pupils you teach.

• To contribute to the development of the English curriculum and the Department as a whole. 

Assessment and Recording

• To use an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring an recording strategies, using data to set targets and plan lessons

• To give pupils feedback – orally and through accurate and timely marking

• To set prep/homework

• Communicate progress/achievements with parents/carers using school systems/processes

Other Duties

• Other duties such as attending departmental meetings, parent consultations, cover for absent colleagues and prep duties.

Person Specification

• Clear commitment to implementing whole school/staff policies relating to the safeguarding of children

• Degree level qualification and high academic achievement

• Experience of planning and teaching secondary curriculum

• Experience of teaching to a high standard

• The ability to promote good progress and outcomes by pupils

• The ability to manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment

• ICT competent

• Positive values and attitudes

• A commitment to equal opportunities and inclusion

• Highly effective communication skills with both children and adults, including parents and carers

• Highly effective time management skills

• Commitment to professional development

• Reliability and integrity

• Commitment to effective assessment and feedback for pupils

• Experience of improving the literacy levels of weaker pupils at KS3/4 - desirable
