Job overview

Contract term: 1 year maternity cover contract in the first instance with the possibility of leading to a permanent contract.

An exciting opportunity exists for September 2016 for an inspirational and highly motivated teacher of English.

Meadows School is a non-maintained day and residential special school run by Barnardo’s, working with girls and boys aged 9-19 years of age who have EHC plans for their social, emotional and mental health difficulties, Autistic Spectrum conditions or additional learning needs.

As part of our curriculum, students in key stage 3 will focus on primary skills ensuring they have a solid foundation to be able to access external qualifications, including AQA Functional Skills BTECS and AQA GCSE, in key stage 4 and 5. The post holder will be based at the main school and teach English, literacy and they would also be expected to support in phonics intervention groups.

This post would suit either a primary trained or secondary English teacher who has worked in the SEN field or Mainstream with a desire to move into the SEN sector. As a qualified teacher with QTS and significant experience teaching across the ability range, you will have consistently demonstrated good teaching within your own practice, with an excellent track record of CPD, planning, delivery, classroom management and a strong commitment to the best outcomes for individual students. In addition, you will be adept in ensuring that all students are fully prepared and supported for transitions from the main school and prepare them for their courses at key stage 4 and 5. Although teaching key stage 3 and 4 pupils, an extensive understanding of EYFS and primary learning is required, due to the needs of some of the individual students.

It is imperative that you have the passion for making a difference to the education and lives of the young people within the school and in building positive and supportive relationships. You should be a highly resilient team player, motivated by challenges and have the ability to think creatively and be willing to work to Barnardo’s Basis and Values.
