MAIN PURPOSE

Wellington College Hangzhou is seeking an experienced KS3 English Teacher, preferably with experience of working with second language learners in a bilingual school. The teacher must support each individual pupil’s growth and development, encouraging them as Wellingtonians to be inspired, intellectual, independent, individual and inclusive. The teachers must demonstrate an understanding of the wider curriculum and administration needs of the school, and achieve high standards by responding professionally, sensitively and caringly to the needs of the pupils.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery and development of the KS3 English curriculum at Wellington College Hangzhou. The college is seeking a candidate   who would relish the opportunity to work in a forward-thinking, passionate and enthusiastic team to develop and deliver high-quality KS3 English provision. The teacher will be knowledgeable and proficient in the English language, particularly being able to appropriately teach grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in a clear and detailed way. 

Teaching and Learning

1. Contribute to the holistic well-being of all pupils and specifically to those assigned to your individual care.

2. Embody the Wellington College mission statement, values and identities in all you do. 

3. Work collaboratively with colleagues in the English department to plan and develop the KS3 curriculum, inputting ideas and suggestions to continually improve provision. 

4. Deliver high-quality English lessons which are engaging, structured and appropriately paced. 

5. Ensure all lessons are differentiated, to ensure all ability levels are supported, stretched and challenged. 

6. Create a language rich learning environment, which supports English language learning. 

7. Utilise in-class support to provide intervention / additional support. 

8. Demonstrate a range of second language teaching strategies. 

9. Ensure the marking policy is adhered to, regularly providing pupils with meaningful and impactful feedback. 

10. Follow the Junior High assessment cycle, regularly assessing pupil progress, using data to inform planning. 

11. Demonstrate reflexive practice by continually monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of your own teaching, using these reflections to develop your practice. 

12. Make a significant contribution to raising the profile and importance of English, through offering additional opportunities or activities. 

13. Participate in the staff appraisal process, including – class observations, book-looks and engagement with continuing professional development opportunities.

BASIC QUALIFICATION

Education: Bachelor’s degree, teaching certificate

Major: English Language and literature or related education majors

Teacher Qualification: Must have Teacher License

Language: Fluent English Required

Experience: A minimum of 2 years working experience in teaching Key Stage 3 English

Expertise: Knowledge of English Key Stage 3 curriculum, preferably teaching second language learners
