Job overview

We are looking for an outstanding teacher to join our thriving English department from the Summer Term 2022 with a possible Autumn Term start for the right candidate. The successful candidate must have qualified teacher status (QTS) and the necessary experience to teach English up to GCSE level. The ability to teach English at Prep level would be an advantage. The successful candidate will be creative and energetic, have good interpersonal skills, provide an example of excellent good practice and fully participate in the life of this successful and popular school.

Established in 1987, Abercorn School is an independent, co-educational day school for pupils aged 2-13 set across three prestigious Central London locations. Our Lower School site is in St John’s Wood, with Middle based in Marylebone. The Upper School for pupils in Years 5-8 is based on Portland Place. In addition to this, we are expanding our School provision up to GCSE level and potentially A level. We will therefore be welcoming our first Year 9 cohort from September 2022.

The School aims to offer its pupils the best start in education by providing a friendly, caring and inspiring academic atmosphere where a true love of learning is nurtured and from which pupils can go on to successfully gain places at a range of selective senior schools.

Abercorn School strongly believes in empowering children to teach them the skills to become independent lifelong learners. Our practice focuses highly on child initiated learning, listening to and interacting with children to find out their interests and develop a passion for learning. We encourage a culture of collaboration to communicate and develop ideas and to think critically and creatively.

Further information about the school can be found on our website. Applications should be made on the official application form and emailed to Maryse Keeling at hr@abercornschool.com.

All applicants should meet the criteria set out in the attached Job Description and Person Specification.

The deadline for applications is 27th January 2022. Early applications are recommended.

Interviews will be held in the week commencing 7th February.

We actively support equality and opportunity. Abercorn School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff, board members and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. All appointments are also subject to the receipt of references which the School considers satisfactory. All applicants must provide evidence of eligibility to work in the UK. All recruitment checks that the School will carry upon appointment can be found in the attached Recruitment, Selection and Disclosure Policy and Procedure.
