Abbotsholme is a co-educational, boarding and day school set in a large, beautiful estate on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border. Our BHS approved Equestrian Centre offers a wide-ranging curriculum, lessons and courses to our students during the week. We also offer Saddle Club and lessons externally at the weekend.

 

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Equestrian Groom to join our vibrant Equestrian team. The Groom will assist in all aspects of horse care of a small yard of 10 riding school and competition horses and ponies. This is a maternity cover role.

 

We are looking for an individual with a genuine love of horses who is confident and competent in all aspects of their care. They must also have flexibility to cover weekdays/holidays when required.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

- Turning out/bringing in – including rug changes, picking out feet, checking for injuries

- All aspects of horse care including daily health checks

- Feeding and watering the horses including hard feed and forage

- Mucking out to a high standard

- Other yard duties including sweeping, tidying, tack cleaning, muck heap maintenance

 

Other responsibilities

- Assisting our equestrian instructor team with riding lessons

- Tacking up/ untacking

- Exercising of horses when required

 

Experience/Qualifications

- Minimum BHS Stage 2 care or equivalent

- Ideally BHS Stage 3 care or equivalent

- Previous experience in a groom role

- Experience of handling competition horses

 

Job Type – Part-time with core hours of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7am till 12pm
