About the role:

We are seeking to recruit an excellent ESOL Lecturer (hourly paid) who is qualified.

The successful candidate will deliver classroom teaching for adult ESOL and ESOL 16-18 year od learners on a range of courses from Entry level to Level 1 in ESOL. They will carry out related duties, which include marking and preparation, curriculum development, course administration, individual tutorials and tracking of learner progress.  They will also have the ability to address the particular and diverse needs among ESOL learners in Further Education and living in London.  Furthermore, they will have the availability to teach both day and evening sessions at any of the College's five main Centres

About you:

  • Possession of appropriate minimum Level 7 ESOL subject specific teaching qualification e.g. DTLLS, PGCE ESOL.
  • Knowledge of the courses/curriculum relevant to the post, and of recent curriculum and pedagogic developments affecting them.  
  • Excellent communication skills for addressing the individual needs of both school leavers and adults returning to education and for being an effective member within a dedicated, collaborative team.  
  • Be flexible to meet the demands and responsibilities of being a personal tutor with an appreciation for systems for monitoring progress towards higher levels of study and employment.

City and Islington College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, further education college, situated in the London borough of Islington. Students learn in one of five centres, each focused on courses and qualifications within a particular specialism. The college, which was opened in 1993, offers courses at entry level, levels 1, 2 and 3 and apprenticeships to more than 12,500 students, and works with over 200 employers. It provides 16 to 19 study programmes across all subject areas for around 4,200 students, and the largest areas are arts, media, publishing, science, health, public services and care.
