United Lisbon International School is inviting applications for the post of ESOL Specialist Department Lead. Experience in teaching second language English students is essential as is supporting other teachers develop their ESOL skills. International teaching experience is desirable, and the candidate must be able to work effectively with students and teachers from a variety of ages and backgrounds. We are looking for someone who will develop existing ESOL policies, model good ESOL practice and develop supportive relationships with students.  

  

Job description:

  • Liaise with teachers and Heads of Department to devise strategies to support ESL proficiency and development.  
  • Develop coherent whole school ESOL policies and monitor their effectiveness.  
  • Develop long-term goals and objectives for ESOL program aligned with the school's missions .
  • Identify emerging trends, needs, and opportunities in the field of ESOL education.
  • Prepare and oversee an annual ESOL Departmental Action Plan.  
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of ESOL curriculum, courses, and materials.
  • Coordinate the assessment of students’ level of English proficiency and devise individual education plans.  
  • Lead Departmental Meetings.  
  • Provide staff inset and create opportunities for teachers to reflect on their progress.  
  • Advise the Senior Leadership Team on ESOL provision throughout the school.  
  • Maintain a teaching load appropriate to the position and model good practice.  
  • Establish cooperative relations with parents and develop effective home-school partnerships.  
  • Lead and organize ESOL summer school.


Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor´s degree, MA preferred. 
  • Minimum three years experience teaching ESOL 
  • Experience in curriculum and program development 
  • Knowledge of current literature, trends, methods and developments in the area of ESOL 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Computer literate with an ability to maintain complete and accurate records
