The London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, Adult Learning & Skill Service (ALSS) is part of the Economic Development team within the Growth & Place Department. ALSS provides over 400 courses to more than 6,500 students locally and London wide. The courses offered are both nationally accredited qualifications and non-accredited courses. ALSS is looking to recruit a 0.8 English tutor, reporting to the Programme Leader for Functional Skills English and Maths. This is a key role in supporting the Skills for Life curriculum area to deliver our English provision. ALSS arelooking for a dynamic, inspiring and enthusiastic English Lecturer with experience in teaching English to adults.
The 0.8 post is a key appointment to ensure that we maintain our standards in teaching and learning for English learners and continue to make further improvements.
Person Specification:
- Degree or equivalent higher level qualification relevant to programme area
- L3 Teaching Qualification (if not qualified to L4 commitment to work towards obtaining a level 4 within 2-years)
- Evidence of professional development and continuous updating of skills and knowledge
- Assessor/Verification Qualification
- First Aid Qualification
- Successful adult teaching experience
- Contributing to curriculum development
- Working within an OFSTED Inspection framework
- Successfully working with adults of different abilities and motivations
- Knowledge and awareness of the variety of contexts in which adults learn and those factors that enable them to achieve successful outcomes
- Awareness of the learning and skills needs of local adults
- Some knowledge of employment opportunities for adults in subject context
- Knowledge of ICT and its application to teaching and learning
- Effective communications and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of equality of opportunity and a personal commitment to ensuring all learners are supported to successfully achieve
- Effective timekeeping and ability to fulfil the administrative duties of the post
- Commitment to continuous improvement in line with the service’s mission
- Evidence of eligibility to work in UK
- DBS check or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing post
- Member of a professional body relating to your subject area
