About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Estates Manager to lead the strategic and day‑to‑day management of our school estate. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in estates, facilities, or site management who is ready to step into a key leadership role with real impact.

You will take responsibility for ensuring our buildings, grounds and facilities remain safe, compliant and well‑maintained, creating a high‑quality learning environment for our students and staff. The role is hands‑on, varied and central to the smooth, efficient running of the Academy.

Crucially, you will be fully supported by United Learning’s Central Estates Team and Health & Safety Team, giving you access to expert guidance, sector‑leading compliance frameworks and high‑quality professional development.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Leading the effective management, maintenance and long‑term development of the school estate

  • Acting as the Academy’s Responsible Person for Fire Safety, Legionella and Asbestos

  • Overseeing contractors and ensuring all work meets compliance and safeguarding standards

  • Managing planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across the site

  • Working closely with the Principal and Central Estates Team to deliver robust compliance, safety and operational standards

  • Leading, developing and supporting the site team

  • Overseeing energy management, cleaning contracts, waste management and grounds maintenance

  • Ensuring the school remains safe, secure and operational at all times

  • Supporting school events, lettings and wider community use of the site

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience working in an estates, facilities or site management role

  • Strong understanding of compliance, H&S legislation and safe working practices

  • A confident leader with excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Someone practical, proactive and able to problem‑solve in a fast‑moving environment

  • Ability to build positive working relationships with staff, contractors and visitors

  • A commitment to maintaining a safe, efficient and welcoming school environment

  • A recognised H&S qualification (NEBOSH/IOSH) is desirable, although training support may be provided for the right candidate.

Huish Episcopi Academy is a large, non-selective, mixed secondary school for pupils aged 11-18 based in the heat of the Somerset Levels with a large catchment area. We are proud to be part of United Learning.  At Huish, we offer the full national curriculum to all students with opportunities for our pupils to engage in a broad range of additional activities in sports, music, and the creative arts. It is our aim to develop rounded individuals who are not only academically successful, but who also have opportunities to develop their character education, such as leadership, teamwork, and communication. Our sixth form provides pupils with aspirational courses that allows them to pursue university places or employment after school. The work within school is underpinned by our values of Respect, Ambition and Resilience.

Systems within school focus on allowing disruption-free teaching with the notion of continuous improvement underpinning all we do.
