Job overview

Ludgrove is a thriving full boarding school for boys age 8 to 13, set in beautiful grounds of 130 acres in rural Berkshire, with gardens and woodland in which to play. Its excellent facilities and beautiful surroundings give the boys a wonderful opportunity to develop their interests and talents, use their imagination and, from the start, they are encouraged to involve themselves in a wide variety of activities.

Founded in 1892 we pride ourselves on providing our boys with a happy, caring and safe environment in which to grow and develop as well as to benefit from a well-rounded academic, creative and sporting experience.

Crucial to providing a first class education is the provision of first class facilities. The School is fortunate enough to have some wonderful buildings, both historic and contemporary, in beautiful and extensive grounds. However, we have a long term plan to both upgrade existing facilities and create new ones to reflect the changing demands of the modern educational environment and to meet the academic, pastoral, creative and sporting needs of our boys.

On the retirement of the incumbent we are seeking an Estates Manager to work closely with the Headmaster and Bursar to manage the maintenance and development of the School’s buildings and grounds. Responsibilities will include maintenance and building services, security, Health and Safety, fire risk management, housekeeping, purchasing, school transport and management of third party service contracts.

Candidates must have recent experience of working in a similar or closely related role with an in-depth knowledge of Health and Safety, preferably within a school environment. He or she will have proven management skills, and possess the organisational abilities and interpersonal skills to lead a high level of operational delivery.

Ludgrove is a thriving fortnightly boarding school for boys age 8 to 13, which sits in 130 acres of spectacular grounds and it is a magical place to spend five years of childhood. I feel privileged to be the Headmaster and together with my wife Sophie endeavour to lead the Ludgrove community pastorally and academically. We believe our homely environment provides a wonderful place where boys flourish and realise their potential.

As a school, we are unashamedly ambitious for every boy and are proud of our strong academic record. The boys have a wealth of opportunities: a stimulating curriculum, exceptional facilities and a vibrant extracurricular programme with exposure to music, drama, sport and art. We aim to develop the boys’ confidence in a caring supportive environment, where they are valued as individuals and learn to live as a community. Friendships are made for life and the unique Ludgrove spirit allows boys to thrive in an atmosphere of high achievement, happiness, good manners and kindness.

My family and I feel lucky to live and work in beautiful surroundings with such a talented and committed staff, happy boys and supportive parents. The website can only give you a flavour of life at Ludgrove, so do please come and see us.
