Are you the kind of person who spots a problem and fixes it? Do you enjoy practical, hands-on work where you can see the difference you make every day?

Truro and Penwith College are looking for two full-time Estates Operatives to join our proactive and supportive Estates team. These are varied, physical roles at the heart of the College, helping to keep our campuses safe, secure, well-maintained and ready for learning.

No two days are the same — one day you could be responding to maintenance requests, the next supporting events, managing site security, or helping prepare facilities for students and staff.

The Role

Working under the direction of the Head of Estates, you will:

  • Open, close and secure College buildings as a key holder

  • Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, fixtures and fittings

  • Support reactive and planned maintenance projects across College sites

  • Respond to requests via the internal helpdesk system and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales

  • Support health and safety compliance, including routine checks and risk assessments

  • Maintain external areas, including paths, car parks and grounds

  • Assist with room set-ups, furniture moves, events and College lettings

  • Support cleaning duties, refuse collection and graffiti removal as required

  • Assist with College transport, deliveries and movement of equipment

  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends where needed

About You

You’ll be practical, reliable and adaptable, with:

  • Experience in estates, facilities or maintenance work (education sector experience desirable but not essential)

  • Skills in minor repairs, basic maintenance, grounds work and equipment operation

  • A good understanding of health and safety and safe working practices

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team

  • A professional, approachable manner and pride in your work

  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel between sites

You’ll also be willing to undertake training (including first aid, manual handling, health and safety and specialist estates training) and work flexibly to support College operations.

At Truro & Penwith College, we value our people and are committed to diversity, inclusion, and continuous professional development. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive team where you can make a real impact.

We offer a generous package with benefits including up to 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays and College closure days, LGPS pension scheme, relocation package, free on-site parking and a variety of on-site benefits and discounts.

Closing date: 5pm, Monday 23 February 2026

Curriculum Vitae are not accepted, Application Forms only.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if a suitable candidate is found. Interviews may be held on a rolling basis.

Truro and Penwith College is an Equal Opportunities Employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
