Job overview

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England. Schools within United Learning work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our intranet site, United Hub, is just one example of how we share resources and communicate across sites, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance. We reward our staff: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately the satisfaction of supporting schools in their quest to give every child the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.

Northampton Academy is a transformational school serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'good' by Ofsted in all areas in February 2016. This is a great opportunity for someone intelligent, astute and ambitious to build on this foundation towards excellence and help us as we strive for excellence in everything we do.

We are looking to expand our current team of invigilators and are seeking to recruit honest, trustworthy and reliable individuals who are calm, responsible and methodical to help supervise our examinations, internal assessments and mock exams.

Flexibility and availability are required regarding working hours/days particularly in November, May and June.  Applicants must also be able to work from 8.30 am and part of the role will involve standing for long periods.

Full training will be provided, and we offer a full support and induction programme for all new staff.

This is a unique opportunity to work with us at Northampton Academy, a modern facility with 1430 students in the heart of the community. We offer the successful candidate a competitive salary, an on-site fitness centre, a bespoke personal development package and a flexible benefit scheme.

Northampton Academy is committed to equal opportunities and to the protection and safety of all students and adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share these commitments.

The post will be subject to an enhanced DBS Disclosure.

The post is being advertised with a closing date of 19th October 2018, however we would like potential applicants to apply as soon as possible and reserve the right to withdraw the advert should we interview and appoint a suitable candidate earlier than the advertised closing date or extend the closing date should there not be a suitable pool of candidates by this date.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school, serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted in all areas in March 2023. Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION, AMBITION, TOLERANCE and INTEGRITY. We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Quality Mark Plus that was awarded in November 2021.

The leadership of the academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons. To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

  • A genuine ‘flexi-working’ approach with at least one opportunity a week to come in      late or leave early for every teaching member of staff
  • No unannounced observations
  • No lesson grading
  • 3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
  • A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally

United Learning’s pledge, to all our academy teachers, is that by working for us you will benefit from more pay, more time and more support.

More pay…

• We pay an average of 5% above national scales – the best rates of pay in the sector

• Cash towards medical treatment

• Generous staff discount scheme

more time…

• Three extra INSET days for planning

• At least one personal day a year

and more support

• Great training for your career

• Exceptional curriculum resources

• Expert subject advice

• Support for your wellbeing
