Job overview

Bishop Ullathorne Catholic School is part of the Holy Cross Catholic Multi Academy Company.

At Bishop Ullathorne we are committed to a process of ongoing improvement and discovery. We are determined to provide the very best Catholic education for all of our young people. Our vision of education is of educating the whole person to the fullness of life.

Our set of values, the “Ullathorne Way” through which we all strive to live and grow, is immersed into the fabric of our school. Indeed, Ofsted, who rated our school “Good” in March 2019 said “Your curriculum is underpinned by your Catholic values and encourage all pupils to engage in activities within the school and beyond".

Our Governors seek to appoint an efficient and organised Examination Assistant to assist the Data, Exams and Curriculum Manager with the examination process. The successful candidate will need

  • meticulous attention to detail
  • good communication skills
  • excellent key board skills
  • a willingness to learn new skills.

Previous experience of examination systems would be desirable, however, we are prepared to provide full training for the right candidate who has not previously worked in exams. They will be supported by the Data, Exams and Curriculum Manager and the wider team.

The position is part time working 20 hours per week term time only plus two weeks, but during both internal and public examinations the successful candidate will be required to work additional hours. One of the two weeks will be allocated for exam results in the summer holiday. Please note, we can be flexible with the start time and finish times.

Bishop Ullathorne is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and appointments will be subject to rigorous safeguarding checks including enhanced DBS and references. The postholder must share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Candidates who have been successfully shortlisted will be asked to complete a self-declaration to confirm any (non-protected) criminal disclosures or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children.

The post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. This means that when applying for certain jobs and activities certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. Further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.

Following recommendations from Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) with effect 1 September 2023 an online search will form part of this recruitment process.

Further details are available by contacting Mrs Green by telephone: 024 76 414515 or by email: s.green@bishopullathorne.co.uk

Completed applications should be returned to Mrs Green, HR Officer by 9am on Tuesday 9 January 2024.

Values and vision

The ethos of Bishop Ullathorne Catholic School is strongly influenced by faith, which is demonstrated in the motto “Soli Deo”, or “For God only”. Teachers recognise the uniqueness of every child, allowing them to develop spiritually, morally, socially and physically as well as academically.

The traditional values of the secondary school include everything from achieving through endeavour and placing an importance on hard work, to working in partnership with parents and the local community and wearing the Bishop Ullathorne school uniform with pride. A sense of belonging combined with strong pastoral care will support children at this important time of their life.

Ofsted report

“[The headteacher] and other leaders make frequent checks on the performance of pupils and teachers. The information from the checks enables you to pinpoint effective practice and where further improvements are needed. There is a well-thought-out programme of training and support for teachers that focuses on individual and whole-school priorities. The majority of subject leaders know their departments well and lead improvements effectively.”
