The main purpose of the role:

The purpose of the Examinations Officer is to manage the school examination systems including importing, exporting and accuracy checking, in accordance with school deadlines. You will be responsible for managing the effective and efficient administration of internal and external examination in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations (on behalf of the JCQ member awarding bodies ) and/or awarding body rules for examination administration in a consistent and secure fashion, thereby helping to maintain the integrity of the assessment process.

The role of exams officer requires actions and duties at particular times and dates. The HLTA role will fit around these requirements.  The post holder will work Monday and Tuesday but should be available during exam times as required.

The purpose of the Higher Level Teaching Assistant is to support the Class Teacher with all elements of the day to day running of the class and to teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher on a regular basis across a range of classes.

Key duties:

  • Provide the highest quality of education, care and preparation for life for all students in the school.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and assist teachers in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources. Also, to supervise whole classes occasionally during the short-term absence of teachers
  • Plan and prepare lessons with teachers, participating in all stages of the planning cycle, including in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans
  • Support the Headteacher in ensuring that the school is compliant with the JCQ regulations and awarding body requirements in order to ensure the security and integrity of the examinations/assessments at all times
  • To act on behalf of, and be the main point of contact for, the school in matters relating to the general administration of awarding body examinations and assessments
  • Liaise with key stakeholders (external and internal) to ensure exams administration processes are strictly followed and key deadlines met
  • Duties will vary, you must expect to diversify and lend a hand wherever is required.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidate qualities:

  • Successful recent experience working with children of relevant age in a learning environment.
  • Meet Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards.
  • Level 4 (or equivalent) in relevant subject
  • 5 GCSEs A*-C including English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Recent training in relevant learning strategies, e.g. Literacy/Numeracy.
  • Specialist skills/training in curriculum or learning area, e.g. modern foreign language, Music or RE
  • Ability to use own initiative and work independently
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure.
