Job overview

Pearson have exciting opportunities for newly qualified English teachers to become Examiners for our GCSE qualification.

Due to an unprecedented increase in market share, Pearson are now accepting applications for Examiners from newly qualified teachers (NQTs) of GCSE English.

As a NQT, working as an Examiner will provide you with an excellent opportunity to enhance your knowledge of the assessment cycle and will increase your familiarity with the new specification. The experience gained will have a positive impact on the development of your teaching skills and will prove beneficial to your students.

We understand the importance of your first year of teaching, but your work as an Examiner can easily be carried out alongside any full-time commitments you may have from the comfort of your own home. You will receive plenty of support and guidance from your Team Leader and will be invited to attend New Examiner training and a standardisation meeting to ensure that you are confident and supported in marking to the standards required.

Experience and Qualifications required:

To be eligible to apply you need only to have a degree, teaching qualification and be in your first year of teaching GCSE English.

Please note, if you are an experienced teacher (with more than one years teaching experience in the last 8 years) and are interested in working as an Examiner for GCSE or GCE English, then follow the apply now link where further information on how to apply will be provided.

Additional Information

Before the marking period begins, new Examiners will be invited to attend and complete paid training (scheduled for May 2017) and standardisation events to make sure they are confident in their new role. The majority of training events are held on Saturdays, meaning teachers will not need to be absent from school.

The exact marking period will be determined by the examination date. It generally starts a few days after this and then lasts an average of two to three weeks.

An average allocation should take between 35 and 45 hours to mark, usually at a rate of about 2 hours per day. A significant advantage is that all marking is done online via our online marking system (E-pen) and can be done from the comfort of your own home.
