Job overview

With around 1000 students at the College, the Exams department is a critical part of the College’s success. Examinations work will be a significant part and key responsibility of this post. The post-holder will also make a substantial contribution to the College by managing the Student Services department, enabling the College to offer this post as near full-time, term-time.

As the College’s designated Exams Officer you will have responsibility for all planning and administration of the College’s examinations operations. This includes registration of students, recording and updating exam entries, planning the rooms, invigilators and special arrangements for the exam season, running the exam season, receiving results, and distributing certificates. With the support of your line manager, you will need to manage a team of some 15 invigilators during the main exam period. During this busiest period you will also have the help of an Exams Assistant to assist in the administration of exams.

In managing Student Services you will need to take a proactive role in the administration of information, responding to student queries accurately and in a timely manner. You will also take the lead in arranging travel arrangements, bus information, helping to monitor attendance data and provide support in the arrangement of trips and visits.

You will be well supported in the role by your line manager, who has experience of the examination processes. Furthermore the Vice Principal for Student Services will provide oversight to the work you will do in Student Services. You will need to exercise a great deal of flexibility in managing the two roles to ensure priority needs are met, so good time management will be essential. You will also work closely with the Central Administration team providing support to them where necessary, especially where it links to Student Services work.

College Overview

Scarborough Sixth Form College is an open-access College, which provides general education primarily for 16-19 year olds in the area. The majority of our 1000+ students are full-time, and follow Advanced (level 3) courses from which most progress onto Higher Education.  The College has developed a very successful vocationally-related provision in a range of BTEC Nationals and we also offer a one-year Level 2 programme (our “Progression Year”) consisting of GCSEs in Maths, English and Science plus a range of BTEC Firsts.  Achievement at the College is high, and above national benchmarks, with outstanding positive value-added overall.  The College had an Inspection in December 2019 and was confirmed as a Good provider.

The College provides a pleasant environment in which to work, being set in attractive grounds on the edge of town. College campus facilities have been enhanced by almost £5 million investment. Scarborough itself offers an attractive coastline and beaches and is situated on the edge of the North York Moors, within easy reach of the City of York.
