Job overview

Our exceptional team has led Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) to be the highly successful trust it is today; 10 years since it was formed.

We are now seeking an outstanding candidate to help us build on this foundation and be CMAT’s Executive Director for the Institute of Education.

This is a fantastic new post driven by our determination to maintain our absolute commitment to quality as we continue to grow. By the start of the new academic year, CMAT will be a family of 23 academies (primary, secondary and SEN) providing a first-class education for more than 14,000 young people. The trust operates in a tight geographical area: 20 miles around Cambridge, Peterborough and the main routes between.

Currently, our Executive Board consists of our CEO, Director of Finance, four Secondary Executive Principals, an Executive Director of Primary, and Executive Director of SEND. Our Executive Director: Institute of Education will join this team and ensure that our trust school improvement capacity is deployed in the most effective fashion.

This is a role rich with opportunity. Our Institute of Education (IoE) is the driving force for educational improvement within the trust. The IoE leads on quality assurance, CPD provision, school improvement planning, leadership training delivery and ITT. It is expected that a key role in the ECF will emerge.

The Executive Director will provide direction and leadership for our quality assurance and school improvement teams.  They will work with these teams to refine and develop our Quality Assurance processes, and to design the interventions required when support is needed. The postholder will play an active role in the processes they oversee, and in planning for continuous improvement.

The successful candidate can be assured of no two days being the same and that they will have the chance to engage in a vast array of activities.

The role will require an uncanny mixture of intellect, perception, diplomacy, resilience and good humour. The post holder will exercise strong leadership in a style and manner consistent with the trust’s values, sharing best practice, positively influencing colleagues at all levels, and encouraging reflection and a culture of continuous improvement.
