The Trust
Established in 2011, the Griffin Schools Trust (GST) is a family of thirteen primary and secondary schools in the Midlands and the South East of England. The Trust is committed to providing an excellent education for all students and has a long track record in school improvement, leadership and support. This has been evidenced by Ofsted, independent external validation, staff, parent and pupil feedback, increased pupil numbers and above national rates of staff retention.
Trustees and GST leaders share a conviction that great schools are built on rich extra-curricular programmes and high-quality pastoral care as well as an inspiring curriculum, expertly taught. The Trust seeks to build community and communality across its schools, promoting unity rather than uniformity and enabling each school to lead its own journey to success. It is a given that schools work together within and cross phase to enhance their provision, speed their journeys to ‘great’ and foster proud traditions, widen horizons and promote high achievement.
The Opportunity
Due to the retirement of the long serving Executive Head at NCS, we are seeking to appoint a dedicated, experienced leader to continue to drive this thriving school. The school was judged by Ofsted to be Good in all areas in April 2024 and the report confirmed that ‘staff and pupils share the same ambitions’. The new Executive Head of NCS will play a pivotal role as part of our North Warwickshire collegiate of four schools. For the successful candidate, there may be the opportunity to join the Trust’s wider Executive Leadership Team with a regional/national portfolio beyond the school. The precise nature of the role will be negotiated with a suitable candidate.
The Role
The Executive Head will work with the established Head of School to continue to grow leadership capacity at all levels and promote initial teacher training through partnership working with accredited organisations, such as Teach First. Building on the school’s broad and rich curriculum offer, there are opportunities to develop and extend the provision for all pupils. The school champions inclusive education, has a specialist resource provision on site and creates multiple pathways for pupils to thrive and succeed. The school has a strong track record of partnership working and these partnerships will continue to enrich the learning journey for every child. For example, the school’s work with the Music in Secondary Schools Trust, enables every child to learn a musical instrument free of charge and to have opportunities to perform in local and national events. The ability to work innovatively with other GST Leaders and the Central Team to create the next chapter for the NCS community and beyond is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.
The Person
Inspirational school leaders come in all shapes and sizes and from every kind of personal background. There is no template and no recipe. The only stipulations we make are that you:
· understand that great schools are founded on broad provision and the belief that all children can achieve at least national norms;
· have a proven track record as an experienced and trusted school leader;
· are skilled in strategic planning and maintaining a nurturing school culture;
· are highly articulate in speech and in writing and able to engage with all stakeholders;
· are extremely numerate and able to engage with performance data and financial strategy and management;
· bring experience of school infrastructure, such as governance, estates management and school improvement;
· inspire trust and confidence by demonstrating that you know how to work in teams as well as leading them effectively.

The Griffin Schools Trust (GST) is a family of eleven primary and two secondary schools in the Midlands, London and South East. We have a strong track record in making schools much better for children and their families and for the staff who work with us. Our single most important mission is to provide the conditions in which children discover who they are and then go on confidently to take their places in society, making a contribution to the world through the use of their talents. We will never prepare children to know their places.
When schools decide to join us they bring their histories to us and together we turn them into traditions reflecting the Trust’s mission and values whilst preserving and extending the each school’s individuality. We offer a rich curriculum and an unusual range of enrichment and extension clubs and activities. We also have shared traditions so that children form every school feel part of the same family. Every summer term we hold the Griffin Arts Festival. In the spring we have Founders Day and the Science Symposium and in the autumn students compete in the Griffin Sports Festival. All these festivals are linked in an annual theme.
Great GST schools have nothing institutional about them and great GST staff are thoughtfully recruited for their excellent knowledge and their broad interests. They are developed by Heads as well as the research and training opportunities offered across the Trust to add their individual magic to the mix. All our schools practice open and distributed leadership and place a high value on creativity as well as growing great talent pipelines to ensure that there are plenty of opportunities for promotion within and beyond the school.
Look at our website and click through to some of the schools as well as the one to which you are applying. We are frequently told that colleagues have found their professional home at GST. Is it yours? We look forward to hearing from you.
