Our new Executive Headteacher will build on strong relationships in the community and harness the potential of a talented staff in order to realise the outstanding promise of our school.

Helena Romanes is at the heart of the growing community of Great Dunmow in beautiful rural North-West Essex, an area consistently rated as one of the best places to live in the UK. The excellent local transport links offer easy access to Cambridge, London and East Anglia, as well as worldwide through Stansted airport.

This is an exciting time to join the school.

• In September 2021, the school opened a Primary phase with children in Reception and Key Stage 1.  Together with the expansion of the Sixth Form, the school will grow to become an all-through school of 2000 pupils from ages 4 to 18.

Working with the talented senior leadership team that is in place across all phases of the school, and drawing on the commitment from staff to provide the best possible outcomes for the pupils, this is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate great leadership and deliver an all-through school of exceptional quality of which the local community can be very proud.

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.

While academic achievement is of crucial importance, we also ensure that we focus effectively on developing our pupils’ personal, social and creative skills. Our aim is that pupils leave Helena Romanes as successful, confident and considerate young adults.

We are very proud of our pupils. They are superb ambassadors for our school when they represent us locally, nationally and internationally, participating in our many and varied extra-curricular activities.

At Helena Romanes, we have a large team of well-qualified, dedicated staff who focus on supporting pupils’ progress and well-being. We work closely with parents, carers and the wider community to ensure we provide a well-coordinated approach to our pupils’ learning and development.
