Job/Person Summary

The Governing Body of The Dever Valley Federation seek to appoint a dynamic Executive Headteacher, ideally from April 2021, to lead this highly successful federation on the next part of its journey forward. The Federation comprises two Church of England primary schools, one with approximately 75 pupils on roll and one with approximately 114 pupils on roll, both of which are presently structured into four classes. The schools are broadly equidistant from Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover. Both schools have been graded as good in their latest Ofsted reports and as excellent in their SIAMS inspections.

Governors are committed to a strong culture of excellence and will provide opportunities for the successful candidate to develop professionally. Ideal candidates will evidence the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to lead the schools to their goal of achieving outstanding outcomes for all. If you have the ambition, commitment, enthusiasm and determination required to enable us to achieve this aspirational goal, we would be delighted to receive your application.

Key Tasks

As the Executive Headteacher, you will provide strategic leadership for the Federation and hold overall accountability for the direction, standards achieved and quality of education. In your first year you will need to:

  1. Promote the vision and values for the federation, the Christian distinctiveness that provides the ‘family’ ethos we are so proud of and have ensured our success thus far.
  2. Embed the curriculum described by Ofsted and SIAMs as innovative and successful to further ensure pupil engagement, pupil success and pupil impact locally and globally.
  3. Maintain and further strengthen the quality of teaching and leadership, so that all children across the Federation continue to make strong progress
  4. Maximise productive partnerships across both the communities the schools serve and promote the school locally to ensure the schools continue to grow for future success.
  5. Work with governors on an on-going strategic review to further progress our strengths going forwards.

Our Federation

The two schools are special and unique, both offering a nurturing environment for the children in both catchment areas and beyond. We are proud of our ‘family’ ethos. The schools each have their own unique identities but also have the benefit of being a federation. Therefore, we offer the beauty of being small village schools alongside the positive advantages of being federated. Staff work well as a team supporting each other to grow and develop and sharing their expertise, to provide excellent CPD for all.

The Dever Valley Federation has many strengths, here are a few:

  • Motivated and curious learners, keen to do their best and achieve well
  • Children who consistently demonstrate outstanding behaviours
  • A highly professional and dedicated staff, who are creative and actively contribute to the success of each school
  • A strong, forward thinking and ambitious leadership team who look outward and strive to be successful.
  • A governing body committed to ensuring the children in the two schools have the best possible provision, and who effectively challenge and support in equal measure
  • A supportive parent body who wish to work alongside the school
  • An innovative, successful curriculum
  • Recent successful inspections by Ofsted and SIAMs.

The challenge of leading these two schools includes providing high quality educational opportunities for a diverse group of children, who ensure every day is different and rewarding

Preliminary Visits to our Schools

We would welcome and encourage potential applicants to visit both schools, though due to current Covid-19 restrictions this would need to be outside of the school day. Our current Executive Headteacher and our Governors would be happy to take you on a personal tour of the schools, by arrangement, with suitable social distancing measures in effect. Please contact our Business Manager, Christine Ball, on 01962 760340 to arrange an appointment.
