Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an Executive Headteacher to lead, shape and further develop this federation of schools while working alongside two dedicated staff teams who believe in going above and beyond for their pupils.

The Husthwaite and Sessay Church of England Federation comprises Husthwaite Church of England Primary School and Sessay Church of England Primary School. There is an overwhelming sense of community across the Federation. Each school has extensive outdoor facilities, provides a broad range of extra-curricular opportunities and has a catchment area covering several small villages. Both schools are voluntary-controlled Church schools seeking to serve the needs of our communities. Christian values are at the heart of school life with a collective vision and strong leadership raising the profile of the caring family ethos that both schools share which is evident in both the community and children’s lives and progress.

Husthwaite is currently rated Good by Ofsted, is due an inspection in the near future and is expecting Good once again. Following a recent inspection at Sessay, although rated as Good in some areas, its overall rating was Requires Improvement. Lessons have been learned as a result of that inspection and action plans are well underway to address the findings. Both schools continue to benefit from excellent support, provided by the governors, Diocese and Local Authority Advisers as well as North Star Teaching School Alliance.

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader who has the vision and skills to further develop the effectiveness of the Federation and lead it into the future with a vision for creating opportunities for developing partnership working across the two schools and beyond. New and innovative ideas to further enhance our improvement plan while continuing to raise standards across both schools are welcomed.

In order to succeed, you should be able to demonstrate skilled leadership by being able to set and achieve high standards across the schools while instilling a strong sense of accountability to maximise pupil outcomes.

You must have the ability to enthusiastically promote and develop creative and collaborative working, to communicate and influence across a wide range of audiences and to explore opportunities to develop formal and informal partnerships with other schools. As a motivator and leader, you must have the capability and creativity to build and strengthen teams and achieve the vision of the federation as well as effectively managing finances.

Flexible, dedicated, approachable, vibrant and fun - If this sounds like you we’d love to hear from you.

We very much welcome school visits. If you’d like the opportunity to visit, please contact Sarah Dixon, Husthwaite School Business Manager. Email: admin@husthwaite.n-yorks.sch.uk or phone 01347 868371.

Closing Date: Midnight, Sunday 18th February
