Job overview

Owing to the retirement of an experienced senior leader, we are seeking a forward thinking Executive Headteacher to build on our success and secure high quality education and learning experiences for all our children and staff.

You will work with The Board of Governors to deliver the Federation’s vision of excellent education, through inspirational leadership, professional collaboration and innovation in teaching and learning. You will be expected to work across the schools and act as an ambassador, inspiring and empowering others and developing relationships that lead to growth. It is expected that you will improve the Federation, developing skills which will enable support to be commissioned by other schools and organisations.

The role will suit a senior leader who likes to have a balance of being hands on, shaping and setting the direction, but also spending time in each school working closely with each Associate Headteacher and Leadership Team. Educated to at least degree level, you will be bringing senior leadership experience from your current post.

If you are an inspirational leader who will share our vision and can bring people along with you, then please contact us further to find out more about this exciting opportunity. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the school. Please telephone the school office on 01257 253559 and make arrangements with the Assistant to the Governing Body,  Miss Chris Edwards, who will also arrange for you to have a conversation with the Chair of Governors.

Application packs are available on the school websites and returnable to: J.Bond@wigan.gov.uk or Mrs Judith Bond, Clerk to Governors, Governor Services, 2nd Floor Civic Centre, Millgate, Wigan, WN1 1AZ.

Closing date: Friday 2nd June 2017 at noon.

Short listing: Wednesday 7th June 2017.

Interviews: Monday 26th June 2017 and Tuesday 27th June 2017

If you have not been contacted by 16th June 2017 please assume your application has been unsuccessful.

The Federation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Enhanced checks through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be required for this post.

We are an Equal Opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community. The post is likely to come under the requirements of the Childcare (Disqualification) 2009 Regulation and the successful applicant will be required to complete a declaration form to establish whether there are disqualified under these regulations.

The Federation

Two years ago Millbrook in Shevington and Shevington Vale, joined together to form only the second Federation in Wigan, but one of many such institutions across the country.

The two schools have much in common and now share an executive headteacher, a leadership / management team and a Governing Body.

Bringing our schools together in this way is providing both with many  new opportunities from children working together across the federation  to shared teaching, staff development and projects.

The children certainly think ‘Federation’ now and our families have grown used to children and staff moving between schools.

This is the future for education, particularly for smaller primary schools.

We’re delighted to be blazing a trail in Wigan with something so new and exciting.
