Job overview

Formed in Summer 2016, The Greater Manchester Learning Trust is based in the South of Manchester and currently solely comprises our successful, large and popular Converter Academy, Parrs Wood High School.

The Trust is led by a strong and visionary Board of Trustees who are seeking to appoint an Executive Principal to lead the strategic development, growth and success of the MAT. We are looking for someone who shares our vision of local and regional excellence; who can lead professional staff clearly and ethically; who can inspire and influence individuals and teams; and who has the rigour and passion to ensure our Trust remains an outstanding place to learn as it grows.

Parrs Wood High School opened in 1967 as an 11-18 coeducational comprehensive school situated in the South Manchester suburb of Didsbury. Our main school is housed in buildings opened in 2000, with 1500 pupils in years 7 to 11, whilst our 400 Sixth Form students are mainly based in Parrs Wood House, our 18th Century Georgian Villa and newly built extension with cutting-edge IT suites, classrooms and coffee shop.

Parrs Wood is a Good school (OfSTED Grade ‘2’), successful (in 2016, we achieved 72% 5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Maths, whilst 51% of our ‘A’ levels were A*-B), and greatly oversubscribed. Parrs Wood is also truly comprehensive. We are a multicultural, multi-faith school as befits one of the country’s greatest cities, with a broad range of ability levels and we have an excellent local, national and international reputation. Parrs Wood High School is at the heart of our community and its facilities are used by a wide range of community groups including as a base for the Bobby Charlton International Summer School programme. We have very strong links with local primary schools, further and higher education and local businesses. We intend also that Parrs Wood will progress to an Outstanding judgement by its next inspection.

This is an incredible opportunity to build on the success of a large and well-regarded school and to shape the growth, in one of the most dynamic cities in the country, of a new MAT with a focus on community, creativity and achievement

Community:  “nurturing a community which works together providing mutual support and understanding”

Creativity:  “having the confidence to imagine, explore and express ideas without fear or judgment”

Achievement:  “fulfilling our individual and collective potential”

Our first Executive Principal will be an outstanding leader, and already experienced as a Head or Principal. The successful candidate will be inspiring and have a collegiate and engaging people management style.

We are:

· A new MAT with one large and successful 11-19 school, seeking to develop stronger relationships with other schools in our locality

· Poised for the next stage in our development which includes being judged as outstanding

· Ready to share and develop our expertise in teaching with other schools

You are:

· A strategic leader with extensive experience of headship in good and outstanding schools

· Outward-looking with experience of the bigger picture of education that will shape our place in our community

· Able to articulate a vision that inspires and motivates the whole school community

This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional school leader to build and shape a MAT.
