Job overview

Brisbane Grammar School is a non-denominational boys school of about 1700 students (Years 5-12) that overlooks the Brisbane CBD. The School maintains a strong tradition of academic excellence and operates extensive co-curricular and student wellbeing programs. The School is committed to the welfare and safety of students in its care.

The School offers an excellent work setting for teachers, maintaining a calm and supportive positive environment which supports the School’s core business of teaching and learning.

The School is proud of its long tradition of purposeful and successful innovation in all aspects of teaching and learning. From the introduction of our first Science laboratories in 1912 to the introduction of our one-to-one Tablet PC program in 2010, the School has methodically researched innovative practice and systematically planned and implemented the introduction of these innovations.

Our professional community

Brisbane Grammar School values and acknowledges the professionalism of our teaching staff and seeks to nurture a dynamic culture of learning at the School, for both students and staff. The School provides the freedom for teachers to be creative and innovative, and to develop and grow our institutional research capacity, specifically in the area of pedagogical practice and blended learning. The School’s academic structures actively enable these priorities, with staff working in teams both within and across disciplines and between the Middle and Senior Schools. For our students, the modelling of collaborative, lifelong learning by our teachers is an essential element of the Grammar experience. Such work by our teachers is well supported through access to generous professional development opportunities and to high quality resources.

Our learning environment

Teaching and learning at BGS is focused on nurturing effective thinking practices that promote the development of students’ metacognitive capacities. The School has a well-supported and pedagogically advanced Tablet PC program, with all students in Years 7 to 12 enabled for one-to-one learning. Teachers are encouraged to work together to employ technology and space in innovative ways, thereby ensuring that curriculum delivery at Grammar is adaptive and transformative. Such flexibility is supported by the continuous development of our capacity to identify and analyse relevant data that helps our teachers to respond to their students’ learning needs. In addition, the explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy informs curriculum design and classroom practice.
