Kowloon Junior School is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and exemplary teacher to join us as an Expressive Arts Teacher (Specialism in Drama), starting August 2023. This position will be a full-time two year teaching contract, renewable by mutual consent.

While our goal is to employ staff who are confident and comfortable working with groups of children across the primary phase and passionate about learning to achieve our vision of “Success for Every Child”, the main role of the classroom teacher is to maximise student learning and development through the planning, preparation and teaching of programmes which meet students’ individual learning needs and achieve specific student outcomes. 

The Expressive Arts Teacher will work to ensure a consistent and cohesive approach to Drama & Performance across the whole school.

Key Responsibilities

The Performing/Expressive Arts Lead teachers will further be expected to:

  • Work closely with the Expressive Arts Coordinator and other colleagues to develop an Expressive Arts programme across the school (Y1-Y6) to incorporate Music, Dance, Drama and Performance
  • Teach drama and other expressive arts skills across the school
  • Coordinate and prepare students for concerts/ performances within the school and across the Foundation
  • Coordinate curriculum documentation
  • Support the school’s assembly programme
  • Coordinate after-school Expressive Arts opportunities
  • Represent the school at ESF Curriculum Group meetings
  • Work with all teachers to ensure the Expressive Arts programme has authentic links across the PYP programme of Inquiry
  • Work closely with the PYP Coordinator to promote, enhance and develop Expressive Arts across the school
  • Be responsible for areas of the KJS School Development Plan related to Expressive Arts

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Qualified Teacher status with additional expressive arts qualifications, ideally with expertise/experience in dance, drama and performance
  • An understanding of the IB and the key underpinnings of the curriculum framework (PYP) is highly desirable.
