Background

The Banana Island International School is a small, outstanding, COBIS accredited school within the prestigious gated community of Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos. It is a specially designed, purpose-built co-educational day school running an English curriculum with French as an immersive second language.

The School started in January 2011 with the Early Years section. The School has now started a primary section, has a significant Early Years section and looking to appoint an outstanding EYFS coordinator with strong phonics skills and the qualities to mentor and provide training to colleagues and the wider community. The position will commence from September 2022.

Person Specification

The successful candidates will: 

Be dynamic and inspirational EYFS teachers/leaders from Early Years/Preparatory/Primary School background, with teaching qualifications and, ideally, international experience.

Banana Island, is an artificial island off the foreshore of Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria and shaped like a

banana. It is located in the Lagos Lagoon and is connected to Ikoyi Island by a dedicated road which is linked to the existing road network near Parkview Estate.

Banana Island is a gated community and has residential and commercial areas, as well as sites for recreational activities. It occupies a sand-filled area of approximately 1,630,000 square metres and is divided into 536 plots (of between 1000 and 4000 square metres in size) mainly arranged along cul-de-sacs.

Dwellers on the island are provided with relatively world class utilities including underground electrical systems, an underground water supply network, a central sewage system and treatment plant, and street lighting.

Banana Island School is the only school on Banana Island and attracts mainly families from inside and outside the immediate Banana Island community.

The school is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and will be expected to complete a Childcare Disqualification self-declaration form.
