We are looking to appoint a dynamic and ambitious Early Years Teaching Assistant to work in our exciting Little Griffins Nursery. The small Nursery is set within our highly regarded prep school, located in the centre of Reading and the EYFS Teaching Assistant will work closely with the EYFS Coordinator and Nursery Lead to help deliver and enhance the nursery’s offering and provision.

Due to the expansion of our nursery we are looking for someone to start immediately.

General Responsibilities:

  • To have due regard for the education of all pupils in nursery in accordance with the aims and objectives found on the school's website
  • To provide pastoral care as an integral part of performing duties as a teaching assistant
  • To share in the corporate responsibility for the well-being and behaviour of all pupils in the nursery and school
  • To follow the policies for the smooth running of the school identified in the Staff Handbook and on the school website
  • To attend INSET days and staff training
  • To plan and deliver Open Day activities as directed by the School Leadership Team
  • To join in where appropriate, and be supportive of, all events taking place within the school, including those organised by the PTA


Specific Responsibilities:

  • To work with individual pupils or small groups of pupils within Nursery after direction from the teacher, (maximum class size of 18)
  • To assist with classroom activities under the guidance of the teacher responsible
  • In the case of short term absence of teaching staff, covering whole class lessons under the direction of teaching staff using work already planned
  • To help with the assessment and recording children’s achievement and progress as directed
  • To undertake daily supervision duties as prescribed by the School Leadership Team to ensure the smooth running of the school and safeguard the children in our care – specifically, you will be required to provide supervision duties during morning and lunch breaks (you will be timetabled breaks separately to these)
  • To supervise children in before and after school sessions on a rota basis
  • To help with the preparation and organisation of displays and equipment
  • To attend to minor incidents and accidents
  • To accompany teaching staff as necessary on day/residential trips


The posts holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the school’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare or children in the school s/he must report any concerns to the Headteacher.
