Job overview

We are seeking to employ an experienced and committed Facilities Manager.

The Facilities Manager will co-ordinate, support and advise the School on all aspects with regards to Health and Safety and to manage the School’s facilities department. The Facilities Manager will establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Facilities and Health and Safety are adhered to.

Founded more than 25 years ago, Heathside School has built a reputation as an environment where children spend their time happy and fulfilled. Full advantage has always been taken of the local surroundings, with ‘Heath’ being a timetabled part of the curriculum. The school is home to dedicated teachers who focus on keeping childhood special, while delivering a rich academic curriculum and preparing children to go on to leading London senior schools. Many children also choose to stay at Heathside School and attend the upper school up to Year 8.

Role responsibilities

●       Contribute to the strategic planning and development of the School site and be proactive in identifying the most appropriate and effective solutions to developing the facilities needs of the School.

●       Ensure the security, maintenance and availability of the buildings, furniture, fittings and equipment, providing a satisfactory physical environment and promoting the efficient use of the School’s assets.

●       Implement and manage the daily schedules of the housekeeping, maintenance and security to ensure School areas are maintained to a high standard.

●       Create and maintain an accurate and up-to-date annual maintenance plan.

●      To prepare school sites for all school events.

●      Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.

●      Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.

●      Ensure the School meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.

●      Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.

●      Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented.

●      Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities.

●      Coordinate the development of health & safety policies, risk assessments, systems of work and procedures.

●       Manage allocated budgets in line with the School’s financial procedures.

●       Maintain inventories of School equipment and furniture.

●      Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained.

●      Establish a full programme of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks.

●      Establish a structured programme of health & safety training throughout the Company.

●      Liaise with external health & safety consultants in the provision of training programmes and health and safety services.

●      Manage and devise the agenda for, chair and formulate & distribute minutes for the Health & Safety Committee meetings.

●      Ensure that all agreed action points are completed within deadlines.

●      Provide regular reports to the Head Teacher, Governors and Senior Management Team on relevant health and safety activities.

●      Participate in monthly meetings when required to report on relevant health & safety matters.

●       Prepare further reports for SLT and Governors.

 

Safeguarding

●      Be fully conversant with, and apply, the School’s Safeguarding and child protection policy and all related procedures.


Professional Standards

●      Support the aims and ethos of the School and carry out the school’s strategic plan.

●      To keep abreast of developments in the Facilities Management field and identify possible areas where there is scope to improve systems and procedures.

●      Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.

●      Treat all members of the School community with respect and consideration.

●       Assist the Senior Management Team with staff appraisals and performance monitoring in accordance with School procedures.

●      Take responsibility for personal professional development within the School’s CPD programme.

●      Undertake duties that may be reasonably assigned by the Headteacher (directly or indirectly).

 

You are expected to act in accordance with the aims, policies and administrative procedures of the School. Responsibilities may be direct, joint or through devolved structures, but always in accordance with whole school policies. These details may be amended at any time by agreement, but in any case will be reviewed through the appraisal process.
