Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational teacher with the skills, experience and energy to lead this thriving Faculty from September 2016, which comprises of Geography, History, Psychology, Religious Education and Sociology. Geography, History and Religious Education is taught in all Key Stages, with Philosophy and Ethics being introduced to KS5 from September. Sociology and Psychology are taught in KS5. All subjects attract strong numbers of students.

This is an exciting time to be joining Gosford Hill School as it enters the next phase of its journey under the leadership of its new Headteacher, who took up post from Easter 2016. Visits to the school, by arrangement, are welcome.

Gosford Hill School is situated in Kidlington, on the north western edge of Oxford near to the new Oxford Parkway Station (a 50 minute journey from London). We are also fortunate to be at the gateway to the rural Cotswolds.

We welcome applications from both Subject Leaders, looking to make the next step in their career, or equally from ambitious main scale teachers looking for a new challenge, who feel that they have the passion, drive and determination to develop their leadership skills in order to make a significant impact on the learning of our young people through their leadership of the Faculty team.

If you are interested in the post, please complete a Gosford Hill School application form and include a letter (of no more than 2 sides of A4) outlining your reasons for applying and your suitability for the post. Application forms and further details are available on the school’s website or from Penny Challans, Business Manager (tel. 01865 374971; email office.4060@gosford-hill.oxon.sch.uk). The TLR structure in school is currently under review for September 2016.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 13 May 2016.
Interviews are to be held on Monday 23 May 2016.

Gosford Hill School is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, candidates will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.

Welcome to Gosford Hill School

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to Gosford Hill School. Our school prides itself on the emphasis that we place on the needs, aspirations and achievement of individual students with learning very much at the heart of our work. We want our students to develop as resilient and autonomous learners, keen to overcome challenges, and take risks, so that they gain the transferable skills needed to enable them to lead fulfilling lives as confident and articulate individuals in our society.

Every student has strengths and talents, and it is our job to find and unlock that potential in every student. Whether it’s sport, art, music, Duke of Edinburgh or World Challenge, we celebrate success and recognise that learning goes beyond the classroom. Students are often more likely to remember the wealth and diverse range of opportunities available to them beyond the classroom as they are faced with new and exciting challenges.

We work closely with parents, and it is our belief that where the school, individual student and their parents work closely together, students will succeed.

It’s a privilege to lead such a wonderful school and I do hope that you find the information on our website helpful. There is so much more to learn about our school though, so I would therefore urge you to come and visit us in order to find out and experience for yourself why students, parents, staff and our wider community are so proud of our school.

Mr Nigel J. Sellars
Headteacher
