Faculty Progress Leader English – Key Stage 4

Required from September 2023

The Joseph Whitaker School is a popular oversubscribed school of 1380 students with attainment levels above the national average at both GCSE and post 16. We were inspected in March 2019 and the school was again judged as being “good”. It is worth reading the Ofsted letter as this gives a true flavour of our school.

The Governors are seeking to appoint an experienced, dynamic and well-qualified English teacher to the position of Faculty Progress Leader for Key Stage 4. They will hold a key leadership position within the Faculty and will contribute significantly to making it outstanding, working closely with the Faculty Leader and the Key Stage 3 Faculty Progress Leader. Recruitment and Retention maybe available for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate.

Candidates are more than welcome to visit the school at any time and/or please view our school website https://www.josephwhitaker.org

The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification in order to be offered the post, will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Safeguarding checks will be undertaken during the recruitment process and this may include online searches.

As Headteacher I am immensely proud of the school and the quality of education it provides. Our aspirations are for the school to ‘Be Outstanding’ in all facets of our provision.  There should be no limit to the level of achievement possible for each and every student. The school caters for students of all abilities from Oxbridge applicants to those with special educational needs.  The recently added ‘Proud to be me, Proud to be us’ motto is creating an highly inclusive culture in which all students thrive.

Our aim is to ensure that The Joseph Whitaker School provides an outstanding level of education, a school that the community can be proud of. We want every pupil to achieve the highest possible academic outcomes and this is our number one priority. We know that this will only happen by providing the highest standards of teaching and pastoral support. We are also extremely proud of the wide range of opportunities we provide and we continue to value students’  achievements across a variety of areas, including sport, the performing arts and in the wider community.

Expectations of staff, students and parents are high. In accepting a place at The Joseph Whitaker School you are automatically agreeing to our policies and practices. Students must also take personal responsibility and realise that the levels of effort and commitment they show will be reflected in their final examination outcomes.  We maintain a well ordered and calm environment with high standards of dress. Students are expected to be polite and courteous at all times. Visitors frequently comment on the ‘community feel’ of the school and the friendliness of the students.

The school has been Ofsted graded Good since 2010, most recently in March 2019, and outcomes remain consistently high in comparison to national standards.  We became a part of the East Midlands Education Trust (EMET) in September 2016. The talents of schools together become greater than the sum of their parts and collaboration between the Trust schools is reaping rewards.

Achieving the best possible examination outcomes, having the necessary employability skills and becoming good citizens are the three key objectives we would want to be measured against.

Physical Education facilities consist of a fully equipped sports hall; a purpose built gymnasium, a dance studio and spacious changing rooms.  A full size all-weather football pitch has also recently opened.
