Job overview

‘If developing World Class Schools with Outstanding Leadership and Teaching is your Mission, then join us in our Challenge”

EMLC Academy Trust (EMLCAT) was incorporated in July 2012 to establish, maintain, manage and develop academies and free schools as world-class centres of excellence. Sponsored by EMLC, a charity which supports the development of outstanding education leadership and delivering commissioned school improvement services through its Third Wave Enterprises (TWE) partner, the trust has a demonstrable expertise in improving teaching and leadership, and a capacity and capability for building schools for excellence.

The trust currently sponsors five primary academies in Milton Keynes and Northampton, a secondary academy in Oundle and a new build, 2 to 19 all-through free school in Northampton, which is entering its second year of operation and will grow to 2,200 pupils. The trust’s aim is to sponsor additional academies within this geographical cluster and develop other clusters over the next three years.

To support its expansion, the trust has reviewed its governance and senior leadership structures and is looking to appoint a Chief Executive and a Finance & Operations Director.

Reporting into the Chief Executive, you will:

  • Assist the CEO in the day to day running of the trust
  • Manage the continuing building expansions within our academies
  • Provide support to the Chief Executive in their Accounting Officer duties
  • Take responsibility for the Trust’s finances and financial viability and resilience
  • Provide strong operational leadership and management, ensuring compliance with the all those regulatory organisations with which we work

You have extensive knowledge and expertise in finance and project management, operational leadership and business management. With direct experience of the close management of significant finances, ideally gained in an educational setting, you have an understanding of the challenges facing education and a passion for developing and providing the world class services that enable schools to flourish. A skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire, motivate and empower others, you are able to set targets, timelines, plans and financial targets and monitor and evaluate their effectiveness.

Most importantly, you share the EMLC vision that every child has the right to outstanding teaching and leadership in order to become the best that they can be and you are impatient to play your part in implementing our vision.

In return for your commitment, energy and enthusiasm, we offer the opportunity to participate in the development of a dynamic new leadership team, work alongside acknowledged leadership and school improvement experts and further develop an organisation that is intent on making a real difference.
