Job overview

We are seeking a capable and detail-focused Finance Assistant to join our Finance team at Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank reconciliations, fees administration and payroll processes. The role requires a high level of accuracy, ownership and organisation, and would suit someone who takes pride in producing reliable financial information and managing tasks through to completion.

We are looking to appoint as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily bank reconciliations and cash management

  • Processing purchase ledger invoices and supplier statements accurately and efficiently

  • Supporting sales ledger processes, including raising invoices

  • Assisting with VAT returns and financial reporting tasks

  • Supporting fee billing and receipt allocation

  • Responding to queries from internal and external stakeholders in a clear and professional manner

  • Supporting payroll processes, including preparing and checking data for an external payroll provider

About You

  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy

  • Able to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion

  • Comfortable working in a busy environment with competing priorities

  • Confident using Excel and accounting systems

  • Clear and professional communicator

  • Able to handle sensitive financial information with discretion

Desirable

  • AAT qualified or part-qualified

  • Previous experience in a similar finance role

  • Experience of iSams or iFinance
