Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a confident and caring First Aider/Receptionist to join our Student Reception, taking a lead role in providing First Aid support to students and staff. The post is situated in our Student Services Hub alongside colleagues in a busy shared space.

The job requires ensuring care plans are fully implemented & updated and liaising with students, parents, colleagues and other agencies about both general and medical matters. Keeping up-to-date electronic accident records and reports is also part of the role so a basic knowledge of health and safety matters would be ideal. It is essential that the postholder holds a full First Aid certificate or has prior experience in a similar role and a commitment to immediate training.

There will be some administration involved in the role and whilst experience in a school is not essential, we are looking for someone who is used to operating IT systems in a front-of-house setting. The post requires you to be able to deal sensitively with a variety of situations with students, staff, parents and external organisations.

An ability to remain calm in stressful situations and a flexible approach with highly accurate written communication skills is essential.

The postholder will also be responsible for taking any external post to the Post Office, so a valid driving licence and daily use of a vehicle is necessary.

The working hours for this role are 8.30am to 4pm, Mondays to Thursdays (28 hours per week), with a 30-minute break for lunch each day.

The job description is generic but there will be every opportunity as part of the interview process to discuss this in detail.

King Edward VI School is an 11-18 school serving the community of Lichfield and surrounding rural areas. We want everyone in school to develop to their full potential; it is our job to ensure that students leave us as confident, life-long learners who have a strong sense of responsibility for themselves and for others. We are a learning community with a positive, supportive and friendly environment where we take the time to get to know our students so we can support their learning and their personal development. We seek to develop a strong partnership between students, parents and the school to enable this to take place.

Our overriding aim is to provide the highest quality education for all students. We believe that every individual has potential: our commitment is to help each young person to make the most of their abilities. The majority of our students seek to continue their education with us in our Sixth Form until they are 18 and our results are consistently amongst the best in Staffordshire. Our aim is to ensure that students leave us with the knowledge, skills, confidence and love of learning that is needed to successfully complete their education and throughout their life.

‘It was noted that there is a school culture which is underpinned by high expectations and a climate of mutual respect. As a result, pupils are keen to learn and work hard’. Ofsted October 2017

Learning reaches far beyond the classroom; we seek to provide an all-round education. Extra-curricular activities are offered in a wide range of areas and staff are encouraged to share their own areas of interest with the students. There is also an extensive range of educational visits and events both locally and further afield. Our students are able to explore their potential and develop new skills; we encourage all students and staff to get involved with the wider life of the school and its community.

The school’s strongest assets are its staff and students. If you are considering joining us then please consider coming for an informal visit and see for yourself.

We are committed to professional development and encourage a collaborative approach to school improvement.
