We are seeking a well-qualified Food Technology Specialist with a passion for learning. This position demands a teacher who is energetic, innovative and who has the patience and resilience to excite and inspire students. A strong current knowledge of food technology and/or the electronics component of industrial technologies best practice, and the

ability to inspire students is essential. 


Key Accountabilities:

• An empathy with the values and ethos of an independent Islamic school is highly desirable

• You will possess sound knowledge of the NSW syllabus for the Australian Curriculum with the ability to organise, select and design content for effective teaching and learning


The full-time, contract position will commence Monday, 25 January 2021 with the possibility of further extension.


Specific Selection Criteria:

• Hold a teaching qualification

• Possess 3 current professional references

• Registered at a proficient level with NESA & possess a current and valid WWCC

• Have the right to work in Australia

Green Valley Islamic College is a mixed-gender, independent Islamic all-through school in the south-western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales.

The school was established in 2002 by the Muslim League of New South Wales and teaches students from Kindergarten to Year 12. It is based in an area with a low socio-economic community.

Facilities

The college’s facilities include classrooms, a hall, library, science laboratories, playgrounds and sports fields. New buildings were added in 2015 containing updated classrooms.

Curriculum

Primary classes focus on literacy and numeracy and offer a range of programmes aimed at improving students’ reading ability, mathematics skills and preparedness for high school. The high school teaches the NSW Board of Studies curriculum which includes key learning areas of English, mathematics, science, HSIE (history, geography and commerce), technology, PDHPE, creative arts (music and visual arts) and language (Arabic). Students are also offered basic classes in Islamic studies and Quran Studies. The college uses a positive behaviour support approach that includes explicit teaching of social skills and rewarding students with positive feedback.

School ethos

Green Valley Islamic College aims to teach students to a high academic standard, encourage an understanding of Islamic Ethical Values and create future leaders for the Muslim community. The school motto is that students will seek increased knowledge through faith and prayer. “We encourage our students to aim high in their studies, to work hard and to be sensitive to the rights and needs of others,” the principal says.
