We have a fantastic opportunity at our Colchester Campus for an experienced and interactive Food & Nutrition Teacher to join the team on a part time (0.6FTE- 3 days per week), permanent basis and to teach our students in KS3-KS4 (possible teaching of KS2). You will be adept at coaching our students to see and lead through challenges in their learning, so they make the best possible progress in each and every lesson.

Person specification:

  • Have Qualified Teacher Status and a degree or a similar Food & Nutrition related qualification
  • Possess recent experience of teaching Food & Nutrition to students in KS3-KS4
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum for GCSE Food & Nutrition, including exam specifications.
  •  Possess a good understanding of SEND procedures
  • Have a diverse set of skills which will enable you to be flexible working in the classroom for both theory and practical sessions, as well as in our modern learning centre.
  • Be an innovative and reflective practitioner who is keen to learn
  • Respect and promote the school's Ethos and Values

 Key responsibilities

  •  To ensure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and the highest standards of care, learning and achievement for all students
  • To ensure documented lesson plans are delivered to meet the outcomes as set out in the relevant OneSchool Global UK (OSGUK) Food and Nutrition curriculum and the relevant GCSE and A-Level or equivalent City & Guilds Chef Skills Examination Board specifications
  • Support the development of a vibrant Food and Nutrition programme for students from KS3-KS5
  • This role is central to the efficient and effective teaching of Food and Nutrition using the 50:50 model to inspire and enthuse all students to achieve at the highest levels whilst supporting the development of all learners
  • To ensure students in Food lessons develop a strong understanding of food preparation and nutrition and an environmental awareness
  • Ensure the Self-Directed Learning philosophy of the school is presented in an age-appropriate manner to all students
  • To equip students with the transferable skills of time management, research, IT and problem-solving
  • The candidate may be required to undertake other teaching responsibilities as required.
  • Work to achieve the general aims of the school, expressed in the School Mission Statement and the School Improvement Plan
  • Be familiar with all relevant Examination Board syllabus documents and the OSGUK subject curriculum and ensure that they are followed and complied with
  • Plan, implement and monitor schemes of work, lesson plans and student self-directed learning assignments effectively to ensure all students can meet their potential, notwithstanding differences of race and gender, and taking account of the needs of students who are under achievable or very able.
  • To plan effectively to meet the needs of students with Special Educational Needs and in collaboration with the SEND team.
  • To perform such other duties as may be requested from time to time, commensurate with the role
