Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive Food Technology curriculum that meets the needs and interests of students from Year 3 to Year 9. Ensure the curriculum is aligned with school standards and promotes students' understanding of healthy eating, food preparation, and cooking techniques.
  • Teaching and Learning: Deliver engaging, innovative, and differentiated lessons that inspire and motivate students. Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback to support their learning and development.
  • Resource Management: Manage Food Technology rooms and resources efficiently, ensuring that equipment and materials are well-maintained, safe, and fit for purpose. Develop and implement health and safety protocols in the kitchen and classroom.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Lead and develop Food Technology-related co-curricular activities (CCA) that extend learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Encourage student participation in food-related competitions and events.
  • Professional Development: Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practice and stay current with educational trends in Food Technology education.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to integrate Food Technology into broader school initiatives. Engage with the school community, including parents and guardians, to promote understanding and support for the Food Technology program.
  • Pastoral Care: Contribute to the pastoral care and wellbeing of students, acting as a mentor and guide in both academic and personal development.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Nutrition, Home Economics, or a related field. A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed.) with a focus on Food Technology or Home Economics is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience teaching Food Technology or a related subject across primary and secondary levels.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development and the latest educational practices in Food Technology education.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Competence in managing food preparation areas and resources, with a strong commitment to health and safety.

The School

Founded in 1993, Kampala International School, Uganda began as a small primary school with a curriculum based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. KISU has evolved considerably over the years and has undertaken an ambitious programme of expansion and development. It now boasts a purpose built school with excellent sporting facilities. Despite this phenomenal growth, the School has maintained its original aims and teaching philosophy.

The Enriched Curriculum

KISU has a programme of studies based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. French is taught to all children from Year One upwards. A programme of personal, social and health education(PSHE)  is implemented throughout the school. The curriculum has been adapted to reflect the international diversity of our school community and its location in Uganda.
