Surbiton High School seeks and enthusiastic and outstanding Football Coach to join our vibrant PE Department. 


Job Purpose: To deliver high quality Football coaching to a range of different ages at both Surbiton High School and Surbiton High Girls/Boys Preparatory School


Reporting Line: Head of Football at Surbiton High School 


Tenure: Casual, Term-time, Part-time

(Monday 4:00-6:00pm, Tuesday 4:30-6:00pm, Wednesday 4:00-5:00pm)


Key Responsibilities:


  • To coach Football across a range of groups, from beginners to senior and scholars
  • To run teams within the programme
  • To develop individuals by catering to their needs
  • To feed back to students on selection and development
  • To act as a coach and offer general support prior, during and after events
  • To assist with general day to day running of the football programme and associated equipment
  • To check the safety of all equipment and facilities before use
  • To be aware and adhere to risk assessments and health and safety guidelines
  • To report on, and monitor specific groups when required
  • To carry out any such duties as may be reasonably requested
  • To conduct yourself in an appropriate professional manner at all times, supporting and fostering the aims and safeguarding policies of the School

The successful candidate will be likely to fit the following profile:

  • FA Level 1 or Level 2 Football Coaching qualification
  • First Aid qualification would be an advantage, but not essential
  • The ability to work as part of a team in a successful and dynamic School and football programme
  • Experience of operating professionally and safely within a sporting environment
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Must have played football at a high level
  • A proven track record of demonstrable training and coaching success
  • Experience of collaborating with colleagues
  • Confidence and creativity in managing teams of varying abilities
  • Up-to-date knowledge of football technique, strength and conditioning
  • A passion for football and coaching
  • High levels of personal and professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
  • Experience of football coaching in an educational setting would be preferable
  • Personal warmth to gain the confidence of pupils, staff and parents
  • Positive rapport with pupils
  • High standards of personal presence and presentation and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate concisely and sensitively, both orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
  • A strong work ethic and a flexible attitude
  • Positive, enthusiastic and energetic approach to life, with a can-do attitude
  • Ability to think creatively and imaginatively
  • Committed to the Surbiton High School’s ethos
  • High expectations for pupil attainment, personal development and conduct
  • Ambitious and aspirational for oneself and for the School
  • Committed to professional development and show a willingness to undertake appropriate training for this role

Surbiton High School has approximately 1495 pupils aged between 4 and 18. Our Preparatory Schools are divided into the Girls’ Preparatory School and Boys’ Preparatory School, and the Senior School is girls only from age 11 upwards.
