Scarisbrick Hall School provides high quality and extensive outdoor learning opportunities for children as an integral part of the curriculum. These take place on our 50-acre site. We are looking for a Forest School practitioner who is passionate about outdoor learning and abut creating meaningful experiences for children in nature. The successful candidate will join our team on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a Level 2 or Level 3 Forest School qualification (or equivalent qualifications and experience) who thrives in an outdoor, nature-based learning environment, working with similarly minded adults and enthusiastic children. A Beach School qualification and experience is also desirable.

This role could be a term-time only position or a full time position (candidates will work in our Holiday Clubs during the holidays).

About the Role:

As our Forest School practitioner, you will help lead our Forest School and Outdoor Learning sessions, fostering an environment where children can learn, explore, and grow through outdoor play, teamwork and adventure. Working from 9:00 AM to 6:00PM, on Monday to Thursday and from 09:00-17:30 on Fridays to include our After School Club, this role offers a term-time contract with opportunities for additional hours during the school holidays. (this role offers a year-round contract to include the running of an outdoor learning focused holiday club during the school holidays).

You will be responsible for creating safe and inspiring outdoor learning spaces, and guiding children through woodland-based and beach-based activities which help develop their physical, social, and emotional skills in our extensive woodland areas. At other points in the academic year, you would also help run a Beach School.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Help lead Forest School and Outdoor Learning sessions, ensuring that children receive an exceptional outdoor learning experience.
  • Help lead Cubs activities as part of the Scarisbrick Hall School curriculum.
  • Lead the After School Club wraparound care each day.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver a wide range of nature-based activities, supporting children in their individual learning journeys.
  • Work closely with the First School and Middle School teams to maintain high standards of practice, ensuring that sessions are safe and enriching.
  • Supervise and monitor children aged 0-11 years, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.
  • Build strong relationships with children, parents, and colleagues, providing regular updates on children’s progress and achievements.
  • Support school marketing events with visiting children and parents.
  • Support the development of the Outdoor Learning environment, incorporating the natural world into the children’s play and learning experiences.
  • Have the opportunity to help run a fun an enriching Outdoor Learning holiday club during school holidays.

About You:

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Forest School qualification, or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering Forest School or Outdoor Learning sessions, ideally with primary school aged children.
  • A passion for outdoor education and nature-based learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and high standards of practice.

Scarisbrick Hall is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, birth-18 years, all-through Independent School with Nursery and Sixth Form situated in Ormskirk, Lancashire. When fully subscribed, Beautiful Beginnings Day Nursery, Pre-School, Primary and Secondary and Sixth-Form will provide places for 800 students. The school policy is to have no more than 21 children to a class.

The Hall – a 150-room mansion built in about 1850 – has been an Independent School since 1963. After a number of changes in ownership, the school was bought by its current owners in 2010.

An extraordinary programme of aspirational events from some of the most influential leaders in their fields have been delivered to children all over the world. Guest speakers have included: Denise Lewis, OBE – Olympic Athlete; David Henson, MBE – Parasport Athlete; Ben Lesser – Holocaust Survivor; Dr Maria Van Kerkhove – World Health Organisation Infectious Diseases Epidemiologist and many others.  In May 2022 we spoke live with Dr Stefanie Milan from NASA about the James Webb Space Telescope.

In September 2023 Scarisbrick Hall School opened the brand new Oak Theatre, Gasworks Cafe and Oak Studios.  The Oak Studio is home to Dance and Drama studios, Music and Practice rooms and a state of the art recording studio and media editing suite.

The Oak Theatre can hold up to 400 people and is used for many of our school events throughout the year.
