Job overview

Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. Following Ofsted’s latest inspection in 2016, The National School and College Performance Tables not only identify Queen Mary’s College as one of the best in the region, but it also places it in the top 5% of all A Level providers across the country.

Our Foundation Learning Department delivers person centred programmes at Entry Level, as well as level 1 and level 2. Students range in age from 16 to 22 and growth in numbers has led to the introduction of a new Pathways programme for older students. Most students have an Education Health and Care Plan and come with a range of needs that are often linked to conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, learning disability, ADHD, cerebral palsy, epilepsy etc.

We’re currently looking for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join our dedicated team as a Foundation Learning Teacher. Wherever possible there will be flexibility over the subjects to be taught, taking into account your personal experience, skills and preferences, with the aim of creating a timetable around your teaching skills and expertise. All teaching staff are also expected to act as a Personal Tutor to the group of students that they teach, which means playing a vital role in motivating, monitoring, supporting and guiding students’ academic progress through the College.

We ideally need a SEND professional who has a good relevant degree and current recognised teaching qualification. You will also need flexibility around the expectations of the role and the ability to balance these against the needs of the students you are teaching. Someone who embodies the principals of inclusion, diversity, equality of opportunity, promoting empowerment and independence and encouraging progression for our young people will be important too. Kindness and compassion are also essential attributes, as is the ability to work well as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team.

The job description and application form can be downloaded from our website or contact jobs@qmc.ac.uk Alternatively, you can call Sally-Anne Spooner, HR Director on 01256 417524.

Closing date:  Monday 24 February 2020

We retain the right to close the advert before the listed closing date based on application volumes.

The College actively promotes equalities, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding for all.
