Job overview
French Language Assistant
Cranleigh seeks to appoint, for September 2025, a fluent speaker of French to be a French Language Assistant. The successful candidate will hold French speaking lessons with students, either one on one or in small groups. Most teaching will be in Years 12 and 13 but some lessons with Year 9 - 11 students may also be required. This is an opportunity to join a very friendly, ambitious and successful department, as well as taking a full part in the life of this busy boarding school.
Cranleigh is a leading fully co-educational independent boarding and day senior school consisting of around 700 girls and boys of 13–18 years of age. There is also a Preparatory School in close proximity. Cranleigh aspires to be a beacon of excellence in learning and teaching and is committed to the continuing professional development of all employees. The school offers subsidised accommodation to all teaching staff, whether on site or very nearby.
The successful candidate will be a fluent speaker of French. They will be self-motivated, good humoured and will relish the challenge presented by being part of a cheerful, supportive and successful department.
This post would be ideal for anyone considering a future transition into a career in teaching. No teaching qualifications are necessary – guidance and support will be offered to the successful candidate, who will be flexible, adaptable, innovative and a good team player.
For the right candidate, there will be the possibility to have an additional involvement in the wider life of the school’s co-curricular programme, which may include acting as a tutor to a group of students within a boarding house.
Please read ‘Join Our Team’ on our website to gain an impression of the ethos to which the successful candidate is expected to contribute. Accommodation is available with the post.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of the post informally, please contact Nicholas Miller, Head of French by email in the first instance: ngam@cranleigh.org
This is, initially, a fixed term appointment for one year from September 2025 and comes with a salary of £21,500 per annum. Accommodation and all meals in term time are provided.
