Job overview

"Our mission is to provide an inclusive, international education in a safe, happy, supportive and stimulating environment where all the needs of the individual learner are met. Students are inspired to be the best they can be, enabling them to become responsible global citizens."

French/Spanish Teacher

French is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 3 to Year 13. August 2017 will be a very exciting time to join St Andrews, as we open our new 11-18 Campus.

French is taught both as a modern language and as a first language for those children who are native speakers. French for native speakers follows a first language curriculum which is differentiated for the individuals in the small groups that are taught in each year. The curriculum followed focuses on the development of the whole language, including speaking, reading, listening and writing, especially grammar. It is designed so that, with their parents’ support, children with fluent French or a high competence in the language will continue to develop this strength, and continue on to study IGCSE French First Language and French A in the IB Diploma Programme.

French as a modern language is taught to students from Year 3 onwards, with students choosing from French, Spanish or Mandarin. Students continue with their chosen language until the end of Year 9, when they can then opt to study languages at IGCSE. All Key Stage 5 students have to study two Language or Literature subjects in the IB Diploma Programme, with students who have studied French at IGCSE choosing to study it as a French B, while those students who have not studied French at IGCSE can choose to study Ab Initio.

The ideal candidate will have the experience, and flexibility, to teach French as both a First Language and an MFL across both Primary and High School age-ranges, including to IGCSE and IBDP students. Previous experience of teaching these courses, and also of teaching Spanish, will be a significant advantage.

At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.

All Languages classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required. As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.

St Andrews International School Bangkok was founded in 1997 on an attractive, conveniently located site which today is home to our Primary School. Today we are a school of more than 1,900 students representing some 55 nationalities ranging from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 13. In August 2017 we opened an additional campus at a nearby prime city centre location which delivers state of the art purpose-built learning facilities to our High School.

Our school provides a high quality, professional, well-resourced learning environment where each child’s talents and abilities are recognised and nurtured, and their needs supported. We are an inclusive school that welcomes students of all abilities. To ensure that all our children have an equality of opportunity, we have a professional Learning Support Department. This team works with class teachers to identify and support children in their learning across the school, whether they need extra help with their studies or have been identified as gifted and talented.
