Job overview

General Catering Assistant

£17,065 pa for 37.5 hour week during term time (36 weeks per year)

10.70 per hour including shift allowance

5/7 days 2 week shift pattern

Our large and friendly Catering department (45 staff) provides a daily catering service to staff, students and visitors, producing around 1500 lunches each day, and breakfast, supper and all weekend meals during term time weeks for our 200 boarding students. Alongside this regular service, we support a range of functions and events in the evening and weekends and provide meals for staff and students staying on site for holiday courses so most roles are all year round.

You will help with serving customers in the front of house area, and assist with preparing and clearing the dining hall and servery area, and cleaning and washing up of all kitchen and service equipment, utensils and crockery both by hand and using mechanical equipment. Staff work on a shift roster working any five days out of seven which is planned 2 weeks in advance to cover the period 7.00 am to 7.30 pm in term time (shifts are usually 7.00 am - 3.00 pm or 11.30am - 7.30 pm). A shift allowance is paid to recognise your flexibility.

You should have great communication and customer service skills with a polite, friendly and positive attitude at all times. We pride ourselves on offering a high-quality service and want staff who are committed to the highest standards and able to use their own initiative to deliver this. Previous experience in a high-volume catering environment would be advantageous, but a strong work ethic, a can-do attitude, and a willingness to pitch in are equally important.

Basic knowledge of Health and Safety is necessary and we will provide you with Level 2 training.

In addition to the benefit of working with a friendly and dedicated team in our beautiful green parkland estate in this historic School, we offer:-

• pro rata 30 days paid holiday including 8 public holidays taken outside term weeks.

• free life cover and access to a pension scheme with employer contributions.

• free parking.

• easy access to transport links.

• free meals when working.

• 30 minute lunch break.

• uniforms are provided.

• use of our on-site tennis courts, swimming pool and gym facilities free of charge.

• a discount of up to 50% on School fees (85% for wrap around care in school terms) and 25% for Holiday Club in holiday periods.

• free training and development for candidates seeking to develop a career in catering.
